FAN trailer receives positive response from trade and audience

The theatrical trailer of FAN has been received positively both by the trade and the audience, as the film is being touted as Shah Rukh Khan’s return to roles that demand on-screen histrionics.

Comparisons are being made to films like ‘Darr’ and ‘Baazigar’, which kick-started Shah Rukh’s career in the industry and made him the superstar that he is today.

However, since the industry is known to over-exaggerate and praise even the most mediocre of movies and trailers, what truly matters at the end of the date is the response from the trade and more importantly, the audience.

Thankfully, the response has been terrific so far. The trade is in a celebratory mood as the trailer of FAN has not only impressed, but also surprised. Industry insiders always knew that the film was going to be ‘Darr’ like, but action sequences in the film along with the popularity of the ‘Jabra’ song released in various languages, has significantly increased the reach and mass-appeal of the film.

The month of April doesn’t usually have big releases – the last big film that went on to be a huge grosser at the box office was Housefull 2 back in 2012. Since then, only films, 2 States and Aashiqui 2, have managed to perform. Big stars have preferred not to release their films, which is why the ‘IPL month’ could see audience flocking to theatres to watch Shah Rukh Khan on the big screen.

On Youtube, the theatrical trailer of FAN has also received more than 4 million views in less than 2 days. In comparison, the first teaser of FAN got 6.5 million views in 7 months and the second teaser has received 10 million views in 4 months. (Note: Youtube only. With nearly 92000 likes, the theatrical trailer is soon set to cross the 1 lakh likes mark. It’s soon going to be more than the combined ‘likes’ of Fan Teaser 1 (38,000) and Fan Teaser 2 (60,000). The ratio of likes vs dislike is excellent too.

Overall, FAN is set to be the biggest release in the first half of 2016. As far as the all-important box office is concerned, the first target will be a 20 crore opening, which would be excellent if its achieved. It’ll also be interesting to see if YRF go all out and give the film a big release like other commercial films starring Shah Rukh Khan. It also remains to be seen if ticket prices will be increased to festive levels.
