FAN hasn’t performed upto expectations on Day 2 at the box office. As per early estimates, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer has collected around Rs 16.5 – 17 crore on Saturday.
The film is not holding up at smaller centres, with some of these centres registering falls in the range of 25 – 35% on Saturday. Multiplexes business was comparatively much better, but the big jump that ‘word-of-mouth’ films show on Saturday was clearly missing.
It was a partial holiday for FAN on Friday (Day 1), which gave the collections a boost of around 20% on the opening day. On Saturday, FAN was expected to hold on to Friday levels and any growth would have been a clear indication that the film had managed to find appreciation with its target audience.
The problem for FAN is, the business of the film is dependent on major cities and at these centres the word-of-mouth is mixed – when it should have been extraordinary, like with films like Airlift, Neerja and Kapoor & Sons. The critics have given the film a big thumbs up, but on the ground level, exhibitors have a completely different story to tell.
It remains to be seen where FAN goes from here. The film needs a big jump of 30-40% on Sunday to take the weekend business above and beyond the 55 crore mark and closer to the 60 crore mark – which would make it a fair first weekend at the domestic box office.

Fan is a dull, dark and boring movie. Myself and my friends were disappointed. Waste of money.

Jungle Book B.O is very good as if FAN never released,it has not been affected at all,am expecting a 10cr+ on sunday.
FAN won’t even do a 60cr weekend,clearly shows the audince are not that interested.

Of course, it would have been great for the film had the same levels as Friday been maintained. For a Shahrukh Khan film, it is always expected that at least over the weekend it would show good growth. However, this is not the kind of film that would go on to do bumper business and bring on audiences in horde, especially after looking at the final product. Moreover, as was mentioned in this column yesterday too, the word of mouth is not universal for the film. Though no one has disliked the film per se, it is not generating a ‘wow’ reaction either.

The Maneesh Sharma film is anticipating good response from a target segment of audience and that needs to ensure that collections today go past 20 crore. That is a bare minimum requirement for Fan to foresee a good week ahead.
As per BOI Saturday Collection 15.75 CR. Sunday will surely come below Friday. As family audience at mass centers not supporting this movie and Highend multiplex where it is strong will fall in the evening shows because working day tomorrow. Might be 17.5 today. But looks like dooms ahead for this Pankha from tomorrow onwards. Indicine from tuesday onwards try to give a comparative day wise collections of Fan and Airlift. Will be an interesting one as both movies target audience was multiplex.
wht do people want from srk…he gives content oriented film they complain..he gives massy ones they say stick to romantic roles…he gives romantic films they say hes too old for those roles. pple shld learn to appreciate other’s work . if u must criticize do so in a sobber way. As per BOI 15.5cr drop 17% from Friday. While Jai ho drop only 5% as per http://www.indicine.com. it’s extremely mixed movie. Today will be 17.5cr.

@wazza – There is no negativity. Both Airlift and Fan are multiplex target tried content driven films. They just called out their trending was better. Both Neerja and airlift. Fan had better opening but not shattering and hence it needs good trending else it is a red signal. It’s not like fan had 30 crores opening and 85 crores weekend , if it trends poorly it will close below Airlift which I have stated. This in history will be biggest blow to SRK if his movies end up not just below Alshays but now I am sure Jungle books lifetime in India will be better than Fan by 15 ctores
To SRK fans, just tell me – why does trade feel mass films like dilwale underperformed and now content driven and multiplex film is underperforming ?
If you can’t win in either areas then there are questions going to be asked. You have to understand Kangama has crossed 150 and even even even Akshay managed to somehow pull off Airlift
If fan trends like this I doubt it is even looking at 115 now. Very sad very sad one more film not touching 150 for SRK while stars have 300 as benchmark

For a content based the day 2 collections decide it’s fate. Airlift, Kapoor and Sons and Neerja all these films have seen a rise on day 2.
Friday was no-way a holiday, this film’s target audience are youth and IT professionals and no IT company or college gives holiday on Sri Ram Navmi.
