FAN hasn’t performed upto expectations on Day 2 at the box office. As per early estimates, the Shah Rukh Khan starrer has collected around Rs 16.5 – 17 crore on Saturday.
The film is not holding up at smaller centres, with some of these centres registering falls in the range of 25 – 35% on Saturday. Multiplexes business was comparatively much better, but the big jump that ‘word-of-mouth’ films show on Saturday was clearly missing.
It was a partial holiday for FAN on Friday (Day 1), which gave the collections a boost of around 20% on the opening day. On Saturday, FAN was expected to hold on to Friday levels and any growth would have been a clear indication that the film had managed to find appreciation with its target audience.
The problem for FAN is, the business of the film is dependent on major cities and at these centres the word-of-mouth is mixed – when it should have been extraordinary, like with films like Airlift, Neerja and Kapoor & Sons. The critics have given the film a big thumbs up, but on the ground level, exhibitors have a completely different story to tell.
It remains to be seen where FAN goes from here. The film needs a big jump of 30-40% on Sunday to take the weekend business above and beyond the 55 crore mark and closer to the 60 crore mark – which would make it a fair first weekend at the domestic box office.

I am not a SRK fan…watched his movie in theatre after 7yrs(MNIK), luved FAN ,don’t know why collections has dropped….hope it grows on Sunday n remain steady on Mon…Bollywood req more movies like FAN ….

Despite having critical acclaim, best word of mouth of his film since my name is khan and almost all critics praising the film and giving average of 3.5 rating, and more over having 3.7 billions of fans, still such low collections??????
But to b honest The top grossers of this year would b Sultan and Raeese if they gets solo release.. I dont think Dangal can match wit collections of Sultan and Raeese
Bhai’s content rich BB collected 321cr. According to srk fans much more content rich movie compared to BB. Hence being a more content rich it should collects 300cr minimum.
P.S: here I am not talking to break BB’s record as it is not a Eid release like BB…!!!

The biggest disadvantage for Pankha was Content Being Toooo Rich— clearly 2 doses of overacting from King is far too much for audiences to digest…! The expression LESS IS MORE is apt for this situation
Always negative talks without understanding current circumstances it may not be justified. IPL, non festive time, without female support, music etc. Still this is great business. It is a challenging job. A lot of dare is required. And it was well known before release it is a non commercial film. S R K will get plenty awards for this film.
