FAN has once again shown a big drop in business, as the film has fallen by 27% on Wednesday. Tuesday was a holiday for Mahavir Jayanti, so business was expected to come down, but the drop is still about 10% higher than where it should have been.
To show the downfall of the film, check out the stats below. The business of FAN has gone from record-breaking on Friday to poor levels on Wednesday.
- Friday: Records highest opening day of 2016. In fact, the opening which was primarily due to Shah Rukh Khan’s star power was 55% higher than the previous best opening day of Airlift.
- Saturday: Records highest second day of 2016. Business remains about 5% higher than Airlift.
- Sunday: Highest Sunday and Highest Weekend of 2016. But the Sunday business is only about 2% higher than Airlift.
- Monday: Crash. 3rd highest Monday after Airlift and The Jungle Book.
- Tuesday: Fails to take advantage of a holiday for Mahavir Jayanti, records 3rd highest Tuesday. Collections drop below The Jungle Book which is running in Week 2.
- Wednesday: Fourth highest 5th Day of 2016, behind Airlift, The Jungle Book and Kapoor & Sons. The Jungle Book in Week 2 continues to dominate.
The problem for FAN hasn’t been the star power of Shah Rukh Khan or other factors like genre. FAN wasn’t a completely off-beat film like ‘Swades’ either, it was meant to be a entertaining thriller with plenty of action sequences and emotions.
The bottom line is, it’s the content that hasn’t found appreciation.

The problem with FAN may be ‘intolerant’ remark. I am not an SRK fan but still did not expect such a low collections.
First of all FAN is not a thriller. More of a drama genre. Clearly shows the neutral audience is no longer interested to watch SRK movie. It will be real surprise for me if SRK gets any solo festive release going forward. And without festive release he is nothing more then any other stars in the industry.

1- A big opening of a film is not only due to a star power of a certain superstar only. It is a combinations of four factors or they could be more.
1- Star Power + Huge/ExtraVagant Marketing (like HNY, Ra.One) + Release Time + Genre
HNY Opening (though its controversial) was because of these factors plus multi-starcasts. Never credit SRK only as you always do.
b) A film sustaining for a long time is not only due to the content but because of the combinations of Stardom + Content + Release Period.
Imagine Nawazuddin or Irfan Khan in PK or BB. They would never have crossed 300 crores.
