Amitabh Bachchan is one of the best actors in the industry, there is no argument over that. But did his performance in Shoojit Sircar’s Piku deserve the prestigious National Award? More so when there were other terrific performances like Ranveer Singh in ‘Bajirao Mastani’, the immensely popular Salman Khan in ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and terrific performances by actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui in films like ‘Manjhi – The Mountain Man’ and ‘Badlapur’.
We aren’t even discussing the other regional language films here, but there were arguably more deserving performances this year in the Hindi Film Industry.
Bachchan was terrific in ‘Piku’, but his performance in the film doesn’t even compare to his stellar acts in films like ‘Black’ and ‘Paa’.

Its a poor decision to give the award to Amitabh this time…And please dont say Salman deserved it for Bajrangi Baijaan…Movie is good but that doesnt mean that Salman should get award…He did nothing special in that movie to get award. May be the movie could have got the best movie award instead of Baahubali. Jayasurya deserved the award for Su Su Sudhi Valmeegam..It was a brilliant performance of a person who has Stammering issues.
Its too much they had given best actor to amitabh bachchan I m very upset by this I thought that ranveer singh surely going to win best actor award
I greatly respect Amitabh Bachchan sir and I am very happy for him. For any other year his award is well deserved, but with such great dedication shown by actors like Ranveer Singh… I simply cannot fathom the fact that he was chosen over them.

There was nothing out of the ordinary about his performance.. He won because of his name – Amitabh Bachchan. Not on merit of his performance.
It should have gone to Ranveer Singh for Bajirao Mastani..
But why do these awards ignore actors like Hrithik and Akshay? They have given some terrific performances over the years.

Big B ain’t deserve nothing. He shouldn’t even have been nominated. Piku was overatted and stupid movie. Amitabh just kept going to the loo all f***g movie. Really failed to understand what was special bout his character.
Btw, probably its first time I don’t agree with the jury who gave the award MR Bachchan. Sallu deserved more than him.

I personally feel ranveer deserved it for bajirao or irrfan for talvaar but i m okay with Amitji winning it
Manoj Bajpayee in Gangs of wasseypur (he was simply flawless, Nawaz was good too but Manoj was on another level)

Farhan Akhtar in BMB deserved National award..
Compare these 2 performances with Amit ji’s performance!! And you know the jury has not done justice..

Infact his own performance in flop Shamitabh was much better than in piku.
Not good from jury. Though it was headed by BigB friend Ramesh Sippy. So maybe something fishy.
Evry one have different opinions but for me piku performance is not aaward worthy.but may be other contender was not that strong.nothing against Big B he is legend.
I agree with you, Indicine. I like Big B and most Indians grew up watching his classic movies but this was one of the most overrated nomination and the award victory. I guess they gave him the award just out of respect and his contribution to Indian Cinema and nothing else. Nawazuddin, Salman, Ranveer, Irfaan were far better than Big B. Amitabh Bachchan also declared his own film ‘Wazir’ a blockbuster on Twitter, when we all know Wazir was just an average at the box office. Some times it can get so annoying…

The awkward moment is when you read some dumb floppy kumar fans who are moaning and saying that Akshay flop kumar deserved the award.

Airlift won’t get a single award I guess..the film has not gone down well with the ministry of external affairs,that’s why it wasn’t made tax free in any BJP led states.
