The Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government has decided to give tax free status to Aamir Khan’s upcoming film ‘Dangal’, which is based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat.
The tax exemption in a big state like Uttar Pradesh will give the business of the film a significant boost in the crucial first week at the domestic box office.
Other states, especially Haryana where the Phogat family hail from, are likely to follow UP and award ‘tax free’ status to the film in the next few days.
The earlier a film gets tax exemption the better, because on an average, more than 60-65% of business is generated in the first week at the box office.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal releases in theatres on December 23.
