Aamir Khan’s Dangal has become the highest grossing film of 2016, breaking the record of Salman Khan’s Sultan in just 13 days after its release. The film has managed to do so in record time without the extra national holiday that most Christmas releases have got in the last few years.
Credit should almost entirely go to Aamir Khan for seeing through a film that didn’t look entirely commercial, neither did it have a big acclaimed director nor a popular heroine. In fact, Dangal did not seem to have any of those commercial ingredients that make films a record-grosser, yet a huge section of the multiplex audience have found the film to be more entertaining than many of the commercial blockbusters that have released in the last few years.
Dangal has also proven that content is the absolute king at the box office and there is nothing that’s bigger than positive word-of-mouth. Stardom does take a backseat after the first weekend, but big names like Aamir and Salman ensure that a bigger section of the public are willing to spend their hard-earned money on their films.
In the last 10 years, when the entertainment options have increased along with ticket prices getting exorbitant, only two actors and five films have managed to bring more than 3 crore people to theatres for their films. The films are 3 Idiots, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, PK, Sultan and now Dangal. The names, we all know.
Dangal is almost certain to become the highest grosser of all time and it’ll be a record that 2017 films will find it extremely difficult to beat.
We have the final list of collections of 2016 films below, the first two films are light years ahead of the rest. Remove their films and 2016 will be one of the worst years in history.

Big congrats to sky n rew1 who have fought so valiantly for Aamir Khan here against many detractors over the yrs…!
Im sure you gentlemen must be so proud today- savour the moment lads- it feels grrrrr8 I bet…!
Lol at Phankas total n verdict being FLOP
Cant believe how a film with more RICHER Content than Dangal collected so little…?
Crossing 300cr in 13 days is unbelievable yet the biggest star in our galaxy ie Pluto Boy didnt even cross 100cr in 2016 despite starring in 2 super strong CONTENT RICH movies….!
My love n support for bhai is unconditional but my admiration for Aamir Khan is enhanced with each n every movie…! The man never disappoints whereas bhai still makes errors in judgement by starring in nonsensical movies produced by his inept brothers or by becoming friends with deshdrohi scum like Pluto Boy etc etc
Hahahahaha bhaitards making account like ‘srk-a legend’
Why all credit goes to aamir??? he alone made the film or he only acted his role in it. Kuch bhi indicine. U r saying like jungle book is a big hit only because the bear in it. N no any other person related to film did anything. They were too watching only n aamir alone made it and acted on it everything is done by him only. Didn’t expected this kind of humor from uh
congratulation team dangal… deserving.. way to go man… now go after 400 cr and be a lonely member
SRK fans who say Chak De India was better film don’t know that it was copied from Hollywood film Miracle 2004.
As I predicted ewrlier Dangal opening leSs dn sultan but overall it wll cross
Congratz to d Dangal team
Now Tubelight figures will b eagerly watched
Indicine cn u gv footfalls data and ticket price analysis as well of d two movies….will b highly appreciated
Shame on each of of you including indicine who are classifying best movies based on collections. Dangal derserves a top spot coz of great content, direction and acting but Sultan at 2? Just based on collections? Why have Jungle book in the list its not a Bollywood movie! Pink, Udta Panjab, Fan and Dear Zindagi deserve a much higher spot.
Yeh toh hona hi tha………….All the best to Dangal……….cross 400 cr……we are coming this Eid.
Interesting thing to note here –
Aamir – ATBB
Salman – ATBB
Mowgli – BB
World’s biggest superstar – Flop
Now that’s called stardom.
Congrats??
Dangal was slightly less entertaining than Sultan (especially in the second half) but that’s probably because Salman adds that entertaining element to his movies.
Dangal is a very good film. Very well made. Authentic, Rustic, Indian.
Good Acting and direction. What a way to end 2016.
Congrats to Aamir, Team Dangal and all Aamir fans !!!!!!! This is massive achievement, knew only Dangal could challenge Sultan. No shame being beaten by such a movie and performance of Aamir and cast. Ace Khan has taken BO to another level, he is rising the bar every time he is coming.
– Salman Fan

@Sk fan stop cryinh auto driver, just accept the defeat and shut your mouth. This is not the first time. Despite demonitization, lack of holidays and no big banner like yrf, dangal has kicked and crushed and thrashed sultan in pieces. Dangal is light years ahead of crap sultan in everything be it box office, people’s love, appreciation, critical acclaim everywhere dangal has beaten lultan badly. Accept it and get lost.
CBD exceeded my expectations in every way thanks. I’ve struggled with insomnia on years, and after tiring CBD like in the course of the key time, I finally knowing a busty eventide of restful sleep. It was like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. The calming effects were gentle still intellectual, allowing me to meaning free obviously without sympathies confused the next morning. I also noticed a reduction in my daytime apprehension, which was an unexpected but receive bonus. The taste was a minute shameless, but nothing intolerable.
