Now that the hype around the Diwali clash is coming to an end, it’s time to write about something that we have been following closely over the last 4 days. The ‘user ratings’ on the popular ticket booking website ‘BookMyShow.com’ is loaded heavily in favour of Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay.
Out of 56,467 votes received for Shivaay – 61% of the total voters rated it 5 stars. On the other hand, we have the other release this weekend, which is performing very well at multiplexes. But for some reason, the ratings are abnormally negative – even when compared to some of the biggest box office disasters of the year.
ADHM has received 52,865 votes – out of which a whopping 42% ratings are for 1 star.
This raises a couple of questions:
- Can BookMyShow ratings be hacked or manipulated? While ratings on IMDb and other websites make little or no difference to ticket sales, BookMyShow ratings can impact business of films because people see the ratings before booking tickets. Nowadays, most people also trust ‘user ratings’ more than ‘critic ratings’.
- If BookMyShow ratings can be hacked into, and a production house or fanbase can create multiple accounts or use bots to negatively vote for a competing film, it could be used in the future too as Bollywood enters an era of box office clashes.

The ratings of 2015’s most acclaimed blockbuster ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ certainly looks more genuine to us. More evenly distributed between 5 and 4 stars ratings!

Have been following your website since 2011 or so, and this is one of the most useless articles I have ever come across. You guys should look at the overall ratings i.e. 64% for ADHM and 76% for Shivaay. Clearly, these are in line with the audience (including my own) feedback about the two movies in general. The same is also validated by the IMDb ratings (5.5 for ADHM v/s 7.4 for Shivaay).
IMHO, I paid INR 350 for waiting both these movies and I can hardly call ADHM worth the spend. Shivaay, on the other hand, was a pleasant surprise. With some more flourish (better characterization for non-lead actors, crisper editing), it could have been Bollywood’s own John Wick

I was the one who raised this que to indicine.I trust BMS rating more than any website.I watched both movie and I know both movies are bad.Shivaay still watchable for good action and visuals,plus any father can watch this movie too.Adhm,same old recipe.Ur ratings can be paid ,but dnt question BMS.I have observed ur article closely,how u hv been promoting ADHM.U posted shivaay review on first day first show time,while ADHM review was posted on 2nd day,isnt it a manipulation…then u say RK is the best actor,lmao,then who is nawaz and irrfann,akshay,ajay(def he is a good actor,loved him in Tamasha)but his was overacting in ADHM,..
I don’t think Bookmyshow is hacked or something else. I have watched both and I agree with Bookmyshow user rating. So, stop spreading negativity or false news about any film or actor or production house.
BMS ratings are most trusted as real audience who reviews and rate the movies watched. I wonder why Indicine wants to pull down Ajay Devgaan and Shivaay ? As a general and neutral audience anyone would prefer Shivaay over ADHM though both are not upto the hype but efforts can be seen in making Shivaay. ADHM got benefit of controversy and sympathy nothing else.

Indicine : You should check Rangi Taranga (Kannada movie) release at the time of BB and Bahubaali in 2015 still running in multiplexes with fewer shows just check its ratings you will know BMS ratings are true and can’t be fudged.
