‘Court’, directed by Chaitanya Tamhanhe, is India’s official entry for the Oscars. The Marathi film was chosen ahead of popular contenders like S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ and Kabir Khan’s ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.
The 88th Academy Awards will be held next year.
Veteran actor-filmmaker Amol Palekar was heading the jury for choosing the entry this year.
‘Court’ is about a trial which unfolds in a lower court, where the hopes and dreams of the city’s ordinary people play out. It was named the National Film Award winner in the Best Feature Film category for 2014.
The film won the Best Feature Film award at the 62nd National Film Awards. It also won 18 awards at various film festivals, including honours at the Mumbai, Vienna, Antalya, and Singapore film festivals.
Apart from Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, NH 10 and Piku were also one of many contenders for India’s official entry for the Oscars.
BB was a nice movie. But Oscars? Definitely not.
Court will not even come close to winning an Oscar, don’t know who made the choice but just as Barfi was not a good choice so is this one.

I have watched BB two times and didn’t see anything exceptional honestly, just it was salman film with abit of content people and media got overboard. Iam quit sure if aamir had done people would not have reacted that way.

This is so worrying. Is not amol that directed paheli disaster. I personally think Piku Baby and Bhajrangi bhaijan deserving the nomination. I have not watched Court. But I feel these 3 movies are the best so far as at September.

@ sss don’t insult of Baahubali film everybody knows its biggest film of the film , its creativity , special effects are outstanding , we should proud on film like Baahubali we reached at standard level . if Baahubali was crap then why Srk Sir appreciated film . It’s way better film any Indian Cinema even better special effects than Ra 1 , but I don’t want to say Ra 1 was crap its special effects were outstanding .
Great choice. It was an honest portrayal of Indian Judiciary. As epic as ‘Baahubali’ was, I doubt it stood a chance to win an Oscar. ‘Court’ does.
As entertaining as ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ was, it had no business to be either mentioned on this article or to get a nomination for the Oscar. Jury would have lost it during the fighting sequence, ending and many other clichés. No ‘masala’ film will ever be nominated for the Oscar.

In 2006, Rang De Basanti won a BAFTA nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. BAFTA are the 2nd biggest film awards after Oscars.
Every 2nd Aamir movie has been considered for Oscars by the jury. PK was also in the top 10 this year.

Good one guys. Both bajrangi bhaijaan and bahubali are a bit commercial movies specially bahubali, so their chances are not that much great. But they deserve national award. I have not seen ‘court’ so cant comment on that but if it is chosen, may be it has something to appeal for international audience.
