Varun Dhawan got his own spot at the 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, which is a sign that the ‘Student Of The Year’ star has come a long way since his debut film 3 years ago.
The actor discussed films that changed his life, economics of his films and the much-debated clash between Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale and Ranveer Singh’s Bajirao Mastani later this year.
Varun said the clash doesn’t give him sleepless nights, because the advantage that Dilwale has over their opponent, SLB’s Bajirao Mastani, is the presence of Shah Rukh Khan.
“Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani are 2 vastly different films. The upside of the clash is that the audience has more choice. They can choose which one they want to watch”
Varun was quick to add that it’s team Dilwale that hold the trump card “But don’t forget, Dilwale has Shah Rukh” he said.
Talking about his incredible success-ratio and his knack of picking films that work at the box office, Varun said the toughest part for an actor is to sign (and get) the right film.
“You have to bend over backwards to get a good film. It’s easy to say that the writing wasn’t good and that the editing wasn’t good either, but you have to kill yourself to get the right film”
When asked about the economics of his films. The talking point being the low-budget ‘Badlapur’ that not only worked at the box office, but ensured that the distributors and producers of the film are happy, Varun said “If I know that the producer doesn’t have a budget and if I know that I love the script, I work around things. There is no point making a film with a huge budget if it is not going to make money for the producer. It’s a thankless job and if they stop making money we won’t have films”
Finally, the actor was asked to share his experience of working in Dilwale.
Varun said “Shah Rukh and Rohit Shetty treated me like a baby and made me very comfortable. I learnt so many things especially the way SRK bleeds in the films. The fake blood that he uses for in his scenes is of the best quality. He even gifted me a bottle when he taught me how to use it to make it look real”
After a success debut in ‘Student Of The Year’, Varun went on to star in films like ‘Main Tera Hero’, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, ‘Badlapur’ and ‘ABCD 2’. He has films like ‘Dilwale’, ‘Dishoom’ and ‘Shhuddhi’ lined up for release.

The only mistake of makers of “Bajirao” is, they are going to clash with SRK , who is the king of clashes and have thrashed his opponents in past as well.

He is so confident that this will ne flop that he has started segregating himself and prikecting it a Shahrukh khan flim. Advantage of working in multi star cast film. The same happened to Ranbir kapoor when Roy failed, which was not actually his film.
@kingtard, like I said you need to get a brain.Jai Ho released on non holiday, low ticket price, protests after two political controversies, no other star, panned by critics and yet collected 117cr purely on Salman’s starpower. Jai Ho collection is comparable to festive releases of so called king with big actress and big directors like Ra.one, Don 2, JTHJ.If Jai Ho is flop, then what about those films? Collections are in the same range. And yeah budget may differ but Jai Ho could have collected more if ticket price wasn’t reduced.
The truth is if Salman fails to outdo his previous film or get a blockbuster tag its called disappointment whereas its okay for so called king as long as he gets his favorite ‘hit’ tag no matter how much it collects. That’s the level of expectations people have from Salman.

So what it collected 100cr + ? still it ( jai ho ) was not a hit, neither in India nor in overseas!
