Varun Dhawan got his own spot at the 17th Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival, which is a sign that the ‘Student Of The Year’ star has come a long way since his debut film 3 years ago.
The actor discussed films that changed his life, economics of his films and the much-debated clash between Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale and Ranveer Singh’s Bajirao Mastani later this year.
Varun said the clash doesn’t give him sleepless nights, because the advantage that Dilwale has over their opponent, SLB’s Bajirao Mastani, is the presence of Shah Rukh Khan.
“Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani are 2 vastly different films. The upside of the clash is that the audience has more choice. They can choose which one they want to watch”
Varun was quick to add that it’s team Dilwale that hold the trump card “But don’t forget, Dilwale has Shah Rukh” he said.
Talking about his incredible success-ratio and his knack of picking films that work at the box office, Varun said the toughest part for an actor is to sign (and get) the right film.
“You have to bend over backwards to get a good film. It’s easy to say that the writing wasn’t good and that the editing wasn’t good either, but you have to kill yourself to get the right film”
When asked about the economics of his films. The talking point being the low-budget ‘Badlapur’ that not only worked at the box office, but ensured that the distributors and producers of the film are happy, Varun said “If I know that the producer doesn’t have a budget and if I know that I love the script, I work around things. There is no point making a film with a huge budget if it is not going to make money for the producer. It’s a thankless job and if they stop making money we won’t have films”
Finally, the actor was asked to share his experience of working in Dilwale.
Varun said “Shah Rukh and Rohit Shetty treated me like a baby and made me very comfortable. I learnt so many things especially the way SRK bleeds in the films. The fake blood that he uses for in his scenes is of the best quality. He even gifted me a bottle when he taught me how to use it to make it look real”
After a success debut in ‘Student Of The Year’, Varun went on to star in films like ‘Main Tera Hero’, ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, ‘Badlapur’ and ‘ABCD 2’. He has films like ‘Dilwale’, ‘Dishoom’ and ‘Shhuddhi’ lined up for release.

TRUE
DILWALE has SRK means 3 words Shah Rukh Khan Greater than these 3 names Ranveer Deepika Priyanka. SRK presence is enough 2 win Clash.
No smart Ranveer/Deepika fan will ever want BM to clash with Dilwale. The biggest film of their career doesn’t deserve to face SRK’s wrath
I still feel Bajirao will not dare to clash with SRK’s Dilwale despite SLB confirming the clash.

Why clash with Dilwale might be detrimental to Bajirao Mastani!
Will Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale ruin Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani?
Rohit Shetty’s next directorial venture starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon has upped the anticipation levels after the team launched an exclusive sneak peek into the film. Not just that, about a week back, many media representatives from all over the nation were taken to the sets of Dilwale and shown another exclusive 20 minutes video from the film. And whoever’s watched the video can’t stop appreciating it.
Cut to the real picture. While Dilwale is creating all the buzz, it’s now known to all that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Bajirao Mastani too is releasing on the same day as Dilwale. That means this December 18, Bollywood is all set for a Titanic clash.
Given that both of them are highly anticipated and hyped films of 2015, the clash would mean a division of business. For both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani. But if you see the statistics, an analysis will give you a clearer picture. Although the clash might provide a dent to the Dilwale collections, it’s Bajirao Mastani which will be hit by a detrimental storm. Here’s why!
Dilwale’s safe territory
Having Shah Rukh Khan and Rohit Shetty teaming up for a film can hardly go wrong. For people who disagree, look at Chennai Express. The film, unlike other masala potboilers, went ahead to become the highest grosser of all times back then, beating Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots. Also, it received a lot of love and adulation from the masses. Now picture this. Dilwale is not just a Rohit Shetty-SRK association. It has the powerful SRK-Kajol combo which can and has never gone wrong in the history of Bollywood. Plus, there’s Varun Dhawan, who’s possibly the biggest Gen-Y star currently. Why we say so? Varun’s the only new generation actor who’s single handedly managed to give a string of five consecutive successes. Beat that. Also, there’s Kriti who turned heads with her stellar act in Heropanti. Hence, Dilwale is rather in the safe territory for sure and there’s hardly any chance of the film going wrong. Even if the film clashes with Bajirao Mastani, the hype around the film will easily take it to the safe zone in a matter of less than a week’s time. We bet.
Bajirao’s risky!
However harsh it sounds, Bajirao Mastani although looks really interesting on paper, it’s albeit a very risky affair. Why we say so? Oodles of money pumped in for the film, to make sure it’s look and grandeur is maintained. With a budget of over hundred crore and still counting (The VFX is on!), Bajirao Mastani will suffer a huge blow if it clashes with the SRK starrer. Not only will it lose out on screens, but it will also see a serious dip in its collections. Given that it’s anyway a risky proposition, Bajirao Mastani still has the chance to recover its money if it comes out as a solo release. Despite the content of the film, it will necessarily get a grand opening, only if it releases on another date. And if the film thrives on good content, then there’s no stopping it. Will the same happen if it clashes with Dilwale? Think, think!
Star power!
Bajirao Mastani has Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra leading the pack. Despite being stars in their own spaces, neither a DP, RS or PC can match up to the level of euphoria and hype that a Rohit Shetty film bringing back the powerful SRK-Kajol combo calls for. Plus, even Varun is a safer bet at the box office than Ranveer. Why? Compare their career-graph and their movies’ box office incomes and you’ll have your answer. While people might still argue that SLB entered the 100 crore club with the same lead pair, one must understand that Ram Leela released around Diwali and was a grand solo release. Plus, the scenario wasn’t as risky as it is with Bajirao Mastani. And eventually, it’s the star power of an actor which brings the audiences to the multiplexes and the single screens to watch their films. And there, Dilwale can have no competition. Period.
The Marketing!
Bajirao Mastani’s team is planning to take the marketing brigade to another level altogether. But no matter how much they try, it’s very difficult to get past the marketing genius that one man in the Dilwale team possesses. Thy name’s Shah Rukh Khan. Known to heavily promote his film, SRK and Co will leave no stone unturned to make Dilwale the biggest film of the year, also this being SRK’s only release in 2015. Plus the appreciation and feedback the team has received from the mini-clips and the video footages they showed to the audiences, they’re doubly sure about their product and this can’t be competed with. Also, the film has already become a craze in the Gulf (which is one of the most prominent circuits) and advance bookings have started almost one and half months in advance for Dilwale, an initiative which is a first of its kind. All this just goes on to prove the tremendous star power that the entire Dilwale commands. Even Ranveer, Deepika and Priyanka would agree!
While the gossip corridors of Bollywood have been abuzz with fleeting rumours of Eros planning to move their film to a later date, also because the film involves heavy special effects and has still not been wrapped up, we’re sure it will be a better idea to rather have a solo release on a later date than clash with the monumental film and lose out on the huge money they’ve piped in for their most ambitious project.
BaJIRAO MASTANI WILL BE THE MOVIE OF THE YEAR N THE BIGGEST HIT OF ALL TIME HOPEFULLY OF 2015
@sultan BHUSHAN 2:05 pm : Like Salman needs Sooraj, remakes and Nawazuddin nowadays ?
@ranveer Singh 2:17 pm : Ranveer can only crush his own self by giving back to back flops like DDD, Gunday, Kill Dil ( Bajirao mastani will be 4th ) so don’t dream to beat Dilwale, even Varun presence alone is enough to crush Bajirao Mastani .
@Sallu Bhai 2:29 pm : that’s why SRK has never given a disaster? whereas Lallu Salman has 4/5!!
So what?? HNY or JTHJ also had Sarook Khan. Con 2 also had Sarook Khan.. if audiences reject the content, it wont even be a hit. Baat kartey ho!!!
Boast not in thyself for pride cometh before a fall. Arrogance and inflated egos of Varun & SRK will be their disastrous downfall. Dilwale is a waste of time, money and the rest will be history. Overconfidence is one thing but tearing down the BM because ugly fugly protégé is in BM and is coming together with his film and it has touched his raw spot is no excuse for black balling her.
I request Eros, krishika lulla to avert the clash between Dilwale & Bajirao mastani. You guys hve no idea wots coming ur way. STORM
TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUEEEEE VARUN.
@IamIdiot, then why didnt ur king release a masala film in Diwali against SOS? Stupid excuse…
SRK, Kat, Anushka, YAsh Chopra, AR Rahman, Gulzar so many advantages..besides, Yash Raj has acquired majority of screens by dirty means. .
Even Yash Chopra died because of the debacle due to manoosrukh
Completely agreed. Two big films with big budgets releasing on the same day doesn’t make sense. Both sides know business will be divided yet are still hell bent on clashing, seems like a battle of egos more than anything. And the first week doesn’t even have any holidays! So one should at least come next year on 22nd january. It would make more sense for BM to postpone given Dilwale, box office wise, is probably a much bigger film
seems like BJIRAO MASTAI is definitely going to postpone,, so many articles even critics saying it to postpone for #DILWALE.
Indicine you need to post article that gives Sept update showing Salman Khan is again NO 1 way ahead of a man called SRK. Haters need to be reminded.
Bajirao Mastani it is all set to become the 2nd biggest flop of 2015 after BV. DILWALE will ruin it if clash happens. And the film of the budget is only 150 cr plus and unable to get 90 cr ..
Let trailer of Dilwale comes then Sanjay leela will himself postponed his release date. Baajirao mastani ka trailer aur songs bhi aagaye fir bhi koi excitement aur buzz nahi hai.Film ka budget bhi 150cr se jaada hai. aur Dilwale ka toh poster bhi nahi aaya fir bhi buzz aur excitement superhigh hai. trailer aane par toh qayamat aajayegi. Songs waise bhi best songs of the year maane ja rahe hai. Agar clash hua toh baajirao mastani 60cr par hi finish ho jayegi.that means disaster. I wish clash na hi ho toh better hai..
ha ha ha well said good poit @akbar
Lol comment box me Srk se Jada Salman ko lekar baate ho rahi hai. Prdp jarur dekhna ;)
@IAmKingtard, what happened to Phantom, Manjhi..did they even get a hit tag? Do you think Salman needs help from those who can’t even make their own film successful? On the other hand, Varun gave 5 hits in a row. Rohit Shetty is successful with or without SRK. It would have been much easier to understand only if you have got a brain in addition to those tireless fingers typing long paras of total bullshit.
He is inadvertedly saying that Queens presence will ensure manipulation is strong…!
But Varun there will be no Deepika so 180cr lifetime looks tough…!
You have to bend to get right script and film…yes you are right all the actress are bending lol..even actors now days to get in to films…

@Marshall 4:07 : So what happened to debacle jai ho without Nawaz which came before Kick/BB (which had Nawaz) ? If SRK needs Varun Help then surely Salman needs Sooraj, Nawaz too.
So if 2 decades struggler like Salman doesn’t need Soraj/Nawaz then SRK who is the most consistent since 1992 and giving back to back huge successful films, has not given a single flop since 11 years ( unlike salman who has given countless in this period too, so called good phase of him ) will need Varun’s help to give a hit when varun himself did debut in Industry through SRK’s MNIK ( as assistant dir ) & did debut by SRK’s own production film (SOTY ) ? Dimag ka ilaj karwa.
if you are so much interested to give advices to anyone then give to that Bhai fan who started saying such garbage, bulshit logics, samjhe.. nahi toh bakwas mat kiya kar.
@Navin 4:12 pm : 180cr is more than crappiest Dabangg 2 & twice more than debacle Jai ho LT .
But we say even Varun alone is enough to crush Bajirao.
