Box office comparison between Shahrukh Khan’s biggest grosser ‘Chennai Express’ and his latest Diwali release ‘Happy New Year’ is interesting because pre-release, the trade pundits expected the latter to surpass the Rohit Shetty directed film.
In 7 days, Happy New Year leads by around Rs 86 lakhs, even though Chennai Express had plenty of holidays in its first week.
It’ll be interesting to compare the day-wise figures in the coming days, because Chennai Express was affected by the release of Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara, while Happy New Year has no competition from big films this weekend. It remains the first choice for cine-goers, which should help the Farah Khan film perform well over the coming weekend.
Do note that the collections of Happy New Year includes business from Tamil and Telugu versions which has contributed around 5.5 crore in its first week. Chennai Express didn’t release in regional versions.

watched Happy New Year,Here is my review.
Story-nothing new or anything which we haven’t seen before except srk 8 pack abs.
ScreenPlay-Its was very poor in first half,there wasn’t a single entertaining moment for me except intro of Sonu and Abhi,srk has full of superstar entry with his old films dialogue,don’t know about other but I simply dislike his physique it was well built but not suits him.Here we should not talk about logics as masala entertainer never about logics.
Second half was good after first 20 mins,I like two things especially
1.fight between srk and Korean specially srk fly back scene when he fall down due to kick of Korean,similarly when he saved Korean child on stage.
2.Robbery,Farah and team managed to give some logical robbery sequence, planning and execution was superb.
Overall first half was nothing but second half is good.
Performances-All the actors given earnest performance as the way their director wants from them.Srk has given one of his poorest performance of recent time,he was strictly average for me,in first half he looks older and just given same performance which we have seen from him multipletimes,his dialogue delivery remind me his accent in Don series,in second half he looks good and good in intense scene as usual so overall average.Deepika didn’t have much to do in this film,her role was nothing compare to CE but she is good to average whatever she did.Abhishek shines in this film,whenever he was on screen audience wants that he will say something or do idiocy,he was show stealer in this film,Boman Irani was good but the king of actor he is,I wish he should do better roles.he is funnier but in some scenes while in some he irritates.Sonu sood was good,in some scenes he managed to entertain with his listening disability but he has superb physique.Vivan given decent performance.
Direction-Farah is such a waste of director,except MHN she never given anything good as a director,though oso was good but its due to srk,deepika and other cast superb performance and music was brilliant.Tmk was bad but hny was poor,except robbery scene she didn’t given anything as a director.
Editing was poor,film can be cut 30 mins,cinematography was best thing about the film, grand scale,superb location,lots of money spend or I can say wasted.Music is big let down, except satakli song which came atcright situation when we Indians feel good as our loosers team get chance as finalist. Manwa page was good but as we have seen song on TV many times so it bores on screen.Music was a big letdown as a srk film music is always good but its lacks that not a single song is chartbuster.
Overall I would give 2/5.
Its a film which you can watch in theatre as in theatre a half baked jokes able to make you smile but only if you are fan of either of any actor.This film is like Farah way to happy srk to strong their bond as it her tribute to srk the way she used his old dialogues and signature steps.
Talking about collection,producer figure will touch and go 200cr mark to make srk first actor to give back to back 200cr but as o’er trade film will remain being ett,yjhd may be.
Final word-its been very disappointing for me the way srk doing films after rnbdj,except CE I didn’t like any of his film from last 6 years,though I don’t lie him but I loved his film pre 2008 like vz,paheli,cdi,rbndj,k3g,mohabbatein,ddlj,bbaazigar etc.Among his upcoming I have hopes from fan and Rohit sheety next but not from Don 3 oops sorry Raees.

Wow,so a so called 600cr ww, 300cr domestic and 200cr overseas figure film is not able to cross 200cr as per trade figure and 100cr overseas even the so called slam tour outside.
Now srk fans excuses.
1.Boi under reporting it happens for all films as producer want to show inflated figure normally.
2.HNY is very long-while length affected only opening day figure,a 8 min lesser run time film crossed 270cr while 3.7 billions fans star film failed.
3.HNY has flop director-those fans who were expecting next mhn and oso now giving excuse for tmk2,earlier film starred with king and queen of Bollywood,some fans like romance,sss,vikram,sakhi farah is better director than Raju hirani.Now its only srk magic,lol they are too smart.
4.Srk is first actor to have back to back 200cr,earlier same fans barking for hr when k3 claimed they beat CE as trade not expecting that it cross 200cr as per trade film stand on 160cr all version.
5.Best joke ever,film has just one holiday-diwali than what was bhai duj and Sunday aren’t they were holiday.
P.S.-srk fans celebrates his back to back 200cr grosser official while Aamir fans celebrated in 2009 when Aamit be AME only actor who just not only crossed 100cr back to back but also open the 200cr club domestic,200cr & e300cr ww, when the second best performance stands rnbdj-86cr domestic and 158cr ww
That called a true history on no as when other struggling for100cr,Aamir edged past 200cr that time.

Y everyone saying manipulated figure of hny is more than CE? Boi said 208 for CE n other trusted sites said 227. Hny stands at 157.5 ( Hindi ) after 11 days plus 6.5 Tamilmakes 164 in 11 days and sites saying 183. So its same 19 crores difference and regarding kick… it also had difference between 15-18 crores …. so nothing new
I hope it will go on to collect more than CE. But if it doesn’t still more than 210 crores will be great nd film can be called blockbuster after that.
