Q. Is there any chance for Sultan to cross 300 crore if it clashes with Raees?
A. 300 crore has been achieved only twice and both films not only had fantastic release dates, but also carried extraordinary word-of-mouth. When two equally big film like ‘Raees’ and ‘Sultan’ clash, then even the 250 crore mark would be difficult to surpass, unless one film is completely rejected. It all boils down to the film that’s better liked by the audience. Star power, trailer and every other factor would pretty much be insignificant after the first day. The Genre factor could come into play if both films receive a mixed response.
Q. You have extensively and regularly highlighted Salman’s “depressingly low times”. Can you remind me when were these “depressing low times”? The only time I remember before he (or any other Khan becomes stars) was perhaps 2006 and 2008. He had a Partner in 2007 and Wanted in 2009. In 2006 and 2008 also, other than Jaan-e-mann (in my opinion one of his better movies) and Yuvraaj, he only had guest appearances or his releases were long delayed movies. Yes, he had multiple multiple movies in a year but he didn’t really have a bad year other than 2006 or 2008 (which I explained above).
A. Salman was down and out for most part of last decade. Between 2000 and Wanted in 2009 (which was the beginning of his 2nd innings in the industry), Salman did 25 plus films and most of them didn’t work at the box office. Films that worked (hit or better) were Baghban (special appearance), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (also starring Akshay Kumar), Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya, No Entry and Partner. The big point to be noted here is all (except Baghban) were comedy films, which released during a time when the genre was super-popular and almost everything that made people laugh worked. Also, 3 of those 4 films were directed by David Dhawan.
‘Depressingly low’ because many of his solo films didn’t even get a face-saving opening at the box office. Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya, Marigold, Kyon Ki, God Tussi Great Ho, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kahaa and a few more were washouts. Salman himself wasn’t taking his career seriously and was wasting his talent and fan-following by working in sub-standard films – most of them signed as favours to his friends in the industry. He always had fans, it’s just that when he became more focused and started doing films for them, they came out in big numbers.
Shah Rukh khan is considered King of Romance. Anybody played that role better than him apart from Kaka?

Actually, MSK is a film that helped Akki to be counted as a commercial hero and comic actor. Earlier in 21st century, he just had few hit films like Hera Pheri, Ajnabee and Andaaz!!
We don’t know to say about what he was before 2000s. He was nothing except for a few multi starter films..
If Tusshar Kapoor were in Akki’s place in MSK, it would still have worked.

I think it is safe to say that both Sultan and Raees won’t cross 300 crore because they are clashing with each other..250 crore may be a possibility for one of them..the opening will be all important because it will set a platform to capitalise..lets hope for the best..may the better film win

SULTAN looks like rushed job like 2015’s DILWALE. anushka joining very late. TV wrestling footage used. No time for post-production production as move not even 50% shot with 3 months to go.
SULTAN also faces typoon called RAEES at BO which is very high on content. If FAN trends exceptionally well at BO and crosses 250 cr means double blow for SULTAN.

It is not a rushed job with very high content. Liquor bootlegging in dry state concept by gangster to rise in politics than fall heavily is extremely unique and never been used in indian cinema.

If Sultan releases solo n content connects with classes n masses, then surely collections will touch 300 crs. If clash happens, den 200 crs is also a great result. Sports based films if received well then collections will go greater heights, example CDI, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, to name a few, let’s hope for the best.

Doing 100 movies is no play. If you think so why not try it. Akshay has been consistent to some extent as a reader said it might not be hit movies but very entertaining. Even his Trp is quite high.
No.3 goes to Ajay. He has been described as a tortoise but with impact at box office. Only Akshay has done more movies than him but he is a good actor with many solid movies. He outshines his comments actors in every movie. Not bad looking at his less glamorous appeal. One of the best actors.
Salman fits in 4th. Despite his lows he shows he can bounce back at his timing. He did craps lots but post 2009 he has been the most consistent than the rest.
Hrithik at no 5. Nobody knows why.he limited his movies. If he was going.Aamir way than I think.he wasted his talents alot.
He had everything at his favour but decides to hide away from public for long.
His father’s influence too had lots of impact in his career but don’t underestimate his talent and dedication.
Lastly Aamir at no.6. Can he be mentioned along with Salman and Shah Rukh? no he can’t. He holds records that are lucrative but he can’t be called Daring. Raju Hirani played some significant roles in his career too. Many art of craft works but hardly consistent.
Though despite being a huge Bhai fan, I have to admit that bhai is the decade struggler and he is born after 2010. He might have given few blockbusters with the help of south remakes but overall his career wise he can’t come close to the global megastar SRK. But still we love our beloved none actor idol who has a bhojpuri stardom and we only see dheenka cheeks kind of epic dance in his movies. We can’t expect our beloved bhai’s movie to cross 100 Cr with clash because outlr beloved idol Bhaijaan lost the clashes to even the likes of fardeen khan, ranbeer kapoor, etc. So expecting him to compete against the Global megastar like SRK would be too much. We want our bhai to get solo releases so he can give more blockbusters.
If any film has realistic chance of hitting 300 crore mark, it is Dangal & I’m pretty confident it will do beyond that if it releases on Christmas!
