A. Last year’s Post-IPL release Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani opened very well at the box office, with opening day business of around 19.5 crore. As far as the opening is concerned, Holiday is unlikely to come close, even though the film expected to release on 350-400 screens more than YJHD.
We expect Holiday to collect somewhere between 11 – 14 crore on its opening day and then pick up depending on how well the film is liked. So for Holiday to get anywhere close to the 187 crore mark of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani or even go on to be Akshay’s biggest grosser (currently Rowdy Rathore at 133 cr), the word-of-mouth has to be tremendously positive.
Collections of Post-IPL releases in the last 3 years below. Business has increased significantly every year. To continue the trend, Holiday has to collect well in excess of 200 crore.
- Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) – 187 crore (lifetime), 19.5 crore (opening day)
- Rowdy Rathore (2012) – 133 crore (lifetime), 14.93 crore (opening day)
- Ready (2011) – 122 crore (lifetime), 13.4 crore (opening day)
