The last highest grosser of the year (HGOTY) that did not feature Salman Khan or Aamir Khan in the lead, was Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Om Shanti Om’ back in 2007.
In other words, for the last 8 consecutive years, Aamir or Salman have topped four years each – Ghajini (2008), 3 Idiots (2009), Dabangg (2010), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Dhoom 3 (2013), PK (2014) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015)!
With Sultan all set to touch the 300 crore mark, 2016 is likely to be yet another year when the battle will be between the Top 2 superstars for the ‘Highest Grosser of the Year’.
The other big releases of the year have practically no chance – because of clashes or unfavourable release periods – to get anywhere close to the total of ‘Sultan’.
While there is very little to differentiate between Salman and Aamir, there is one interesting point that shows Aamir has held the upper hand in the last few years.
Since 2008, each time Aamir had a release ready for Christmas, he has achieved the following:
- All his films have become the highest grosser of the year
- All his films have gone on to become the highest grosser of all time (a record that has eluded Salman for the last many years, inspite of his super stardom)
- All Aamir films have also crossed a major milestone - Ghajini was the first film to 100 crore, 3 Idiots first to 200, Dhoom 3 was the first to 250 and PK in 2014 became the first to go past 300.
With plenty of open weeks and the best release period of the year – the odds will be in Aamir’s favour once again. However, he doesn’t have a top director like Rajkumar Hirani or a major franchise like Dhoom this time around – much like Ghajini in 2008.
If Dangal tops, the gap between Aamir (6 career HGOTY) and Salman (9 career HGOTY) will reduce to 2. Otherwise, Salman will earn the 10th highest grosser of his career and the gap between him and the rest will be 4 films or more.

Main reason of success of Amir Khan is Good Script/Director like 3I and PK/Big Brand like Dhoom plenty of Holidays including Christmas.All above movie got 2 Sunday Christmas Holiday 31st Dec partial Holiday and New year Holiday.Even script was also appreciated to audience accept D3.But This time amir will not get benifit of Christmas Holiday because Christmas fall on Sunday and new year also fall on sunday so 25cr of Christmas and 15cr of new year less from total.So even if movie appriciated like PK then 340cr can be possible but 40cr less mean 295 to 300cr which is lesser than Sultan..302/303Cr(expected).

Well, this year, to be fair, everything is against Aamir.
Boycott by 2-4 BJP maniacs, XMAS and New Year falling on Sunday and a movie that won’t appeal to each and every section of the country at least on the 1st day(trailer might change that). Also, the only pulling factor is Aamir. Actors are unknown(mostly debutantes) and the director is rather not known himself.

But, here comes the big revelation-
Aamir himself in a press conference said that Dangal is like just another Raju Hirani film with the right blend of humour and emotions. Also, the movie focuses on girl empowerment and female infanticide with patriotism at its core. This itself would result in tax exemptions from at least the non BJP states like UP, Bihar, Delhi, Punjab and maybe Maharashtra.
Now some stunning words from industry people:
KOMAL NAHTA: I’ve heard the narration of Dangal and I must say, it is a brilliant scipt. Aamir’s sense of selecting scripts is out of the world. It has the potential of becoming the biggest hit of 2016. Women and families would go repeatedly to watch it.

PRITAM(Dangal’s music director): The film is not so dependent on music as the script itself is so powerful. I’m very excited for Dangal bcoz of Aamir.

If anything of this above is ti go by, we can expect a classic universal film in December that will definitely cross PK and might even do 375-400 cr. if the appreciation is close to 3 Idiots or even TZP.
I’m going with Dangal to be the HGOTY despite everything being against Aamir due to the sheer reputation Aamir has build for himself.
My prediction – HGOTY and a new 350 crore club shall be opened by about 10th January 2017.

As HGOTY is concerned then i believe that tingu sir will bcoz he has a great script sense and can also act well,not like lallu master.xmas is bigger than EID in INDIA and overseas,specially overseas markets will be great.I wish SRK to release RAEES on XMAS bcoz XMAS is bigger than 26th jan and his film could earn better even with a clash with DANGAL.Both their films will be good and people will watch both of their films,so need to worry,RAEES looks a great film.Tingu has a good script sense and can act,so his film DANGAL will also hav great collections.So nothing to loose SRK,WHEN EVERYTHING IS AT STAKE.It’s better to release RAEES on XMAS with DANGAL rather than releasing RAEES against KAABIL on 26th JAN on a small holiday weekend.It’s logic.
