Most Akshay Kumar films in the last few years have grossed just about enough to recover costs, but no film has gone on to be runaway hits at the box office. His last solo-film that did well enough to earn distributors a lot of money was Rowdy Rathore, which released way back in 2012.

As you can see from the table above, Rowdy Rathore was one of the biggest hits of Akshay Kumar’s career. That film was produced by the Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Shabini Khan, who have also produced his latest film ‘Gabbar Is Back’. Interestingly, the similarities don’t end there. The genre of both ‘Rowdy Rathore’ and ‘Gabbar Is Back’ is similar (masala entertainer), both were remakes of South Indian blockbusters and both films feature Kareena Kapoor Khan in a special appearance!
It remains to be seen if ‘Gabbar Is Back’ can recreate the magic of ‘Rowdy Rathore’. The industry is going through its leanest patch in decades and ‘Gabbar Is Back’ will be the first film to release this year that features a established superstar and also has a universally appealing genre. The success of the film will be important for Akshay Kumar, the industry and also for single-screens in smaller towns. More so because no film in 2015 has done well at single-screens.

It is really important for Akshay that GIB should be very successful . 2015 has been a very bad year in terms of Box Office . Even though Baby being such a brilliant film could not be huge . For a movie like Baby Box Office Collections are not the parameter for their value . It has been a long time since people have watched Hindi movies so GIB will be a breath of fresh air . I hope GIB is able to break the record of Rowdy Rathore . One more thing is if GIB will be successful then it will benefit Brothers . The promotion have been good so far according to me . I just want GIB to collect 16 CR+ on the first day . 1st May is a Holiday on the account of Maharashtra Day, Gujarat Day also called as International Labour Day . Ramanna was a Blockbuster and it also got critical acclaim . I hope GIB also gets the same response . All The Best to Team Gabbar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not seen any songs of gobar on tv but an overdose of BV so producers not marketing the film properly imo…. another 60cr hit or abit more like 62 or 63cr….
Right now. ..I can say that movie’s buzz is not that great .Rowdy Rathore’s buzz was fantastic.
Also no hit music is there.
Promos are decent but not as good as RR.
So in my view first day collections will be around 13.5-14 crs.
And if movie will be a good wom then- 100+

Bad- 65.
But personally I think that Gabbar will collect somewhere between 90-100 crs.
Akki can deliver big hits easily if he use the famous k3 calculator to count movies’ collections like our king and greek god.
King used k3 calculator, result- 200cr grosser(hny). Greek god used k3 calculator, result- 180cr(bb). In the same way if akki use the k3 calculator then GIB has chance to collect even 150cr.

lifetime time collection will mainly depend on WOM which will be positive (because the movie is against corruption) and how single screens perform

Akshay Kumar is the king of remakes (5 malayalam, 3 tamil, 1 telegu) & he should be thankful to the south cinema for his stardom for last at least 15 years. or may be morethan this!!!!!!!!!

Gabbar is back will also be average because of single screens, but very difficult to survive in multiplexes. No chance of coming close to Rawdy rathore. RR was very good film filled with good songs and content. I have seen tamil film rammana…..The film is based on corruption. This film will not suit to bollywood as it is dealt with lot of corruption. It will not cross 100 crores as the film will only runs for two weeks.
Verdict:- Average to Flop.

Bollywood really need a successful film right now. There is certain positivity attached with GIB. I have strong believe it will be successful. But not a huge grossee. A decent film with decent gross. Profitable for distributors and produces.
