Q. How are the box office prospects of Raees looking now? Is it still being seen as a potential bumper openers on a Friday morning by the trade??
A. Too early to talk about Raees right now. There is still quite a bit of uncertainty around the release of the film. Are the makers willing to take on a film like Hrithik’s Kaabil? If Mohenjo Daro goes on to be a huge hit at the box office, that will completely change the way the trade would look at the clash – Hrithik would then have a upper hand. How will Excel market the film? Are they going to lie low for a while, then release the trailer a couple of months before – which wouldn’t be a great idea because the teaser was released in July last year. Too many questions at the moment. There needs to be clarity over these questions, because we even begin to talk about opening number on Friday. Releasing on Eid against Sultan was probably a better idea than pushing your film by nearly 7 months. Bakrid (September 9) was the best date.

A. For highest grosser of the year, it’s the content (story, writing and direction etc) that are more important because almost all films that you mentioned does feature a top star. Mohenjo Daro and Shivaay are two films that can surprise and go on to be huge grossers – because the genre of myth / history / costume has received a big boost with films like Baahubali and Bajirao Mastani. Sultan and Dangal are obviously the top contenders because of the release period and two of the biggest stars in the industry. We wouldn’t want to include Raees in this because it’s officially scheduled to be out in 2017.

@ Tiger, Salman was not in lead role in no entry.between 2000-2009 he has only 2 50crore + film -Wanted and partner(supporting role) .his all hit films between this period are multistarrers like MSK,baghban,partner.now coming to srk.he has 4 50+ crore films- don,OSO,CDI,RNBDJ.Before dabangg salman didn’t even touch 70 crore whereas srk touch 86 crore with RNBDJ, 79 with OSO.now we can say that Salman khan is 2010 born star.

Sunny madehim play second fiddle in jeet. Lallu wasno where near superstar level.

Worst movie—-sultan (100% guaranteed,I bet)
If we compare between the two movie Dangal and sultan.then qualitywise sultan is looking like b-grade and moreover it did copy from Dangal openly.
If peoples are thinking that sultan will affect Dangal then it’s completely wrong.because sultan is a 4 month hurrily made crap while amir took much care about his look and have as much as time that Dangal needed
So there’s more chances amir has highest chances to give HGOTY and between amir and salman,amir is always powerful despite of not having can following than salman,but his scripts appeals more than salman.
And remember Fans can’t make a movie huge hit,it’s neutral audience which makes a movie such big hit.so as RAEES out of this year,so salman and amir are the contenders among which Amir’s script+direction is much more stronger than salman so Dangal will win the game.
And sultan has a plus point that Dangal lacks of—anushka Sharma.this might affect Dangal a bit but if Dangal fails to commercialise the movie then also sultan has no chance only because sultan is a mahacrap from a mahacrap director not from kabir khan which we till now marked from it’s mahacrap stills, posters and teasers.
But my bet is Mahenjodaro will be the best movie because Ashutosh Gowarikor is one of my most favourite directors not only mine but also maximum bollywood watcher’s favourite director.
And about shivay will be a crap I guess because what devgan doesn’t know direction and whenever tried to something unique we got action jacksion.
while ADHM will be another Masterpiece Feeling having heart touching movie from KJO SIR that WE everybody of US can expect.
why ADHM gonna thrash Shivay because there ‘s far difference between Reality and dream is there.in papers, people’s are thinking Shivay may be better than ADHM as it has some vex work ,but in reality ajay’s direction came closer to ART+BEAUTY+QUALITY+GEELING HAVING MASTERPIECE WORLD CLASS DIRECTOR KJO SIR.
And peoples are more aware than appropriate direction with content which shows logically ADHM is much more powerful along with star cast too.whatever IT may be qualitywise ADHM will be far better.
Then any big movie left?may be Rangoon and some other quality movie may be stronger contender for being the best film but I don’t think anyone can beat Ashutoshji so easily.HIS DIRECTION mesmerizes audience.hopefully Mahenjodaro will be A WORLD CLASS MOVIE.because after RAEES ,IT’S THE MOST VOTED MOVIES awaited by THE PEOPLE.And MD’S opponent Rustom is unnecesarily disturbing because it seems like a pathless movie based on a true incident but I don’t think it will survive against Mahenjodaro.
And I wrote all the points by using logic.
This is my short thinking about this year’s big film and I don’t want to predict lifetime collection which is always unsure.
