Murder 3 - Jayanta Bhai Ki Luv Story

Bollywood Movies Releasing In Theatres Today

The Valentine’s Day weekend is here and two medium budget Bollywood films release in theatres today. Two new directors – Vishesh Bhatt and Vinnil Markan make their directorial debuts with ‘Murder 3’ and ‘Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story’ respectively.

Murder, produced by Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt, is one of the most successful franchisees in the industry today. The third film in the series titled Murder 3 is an emotional thriller, that has quite surprisingly been passed with a U/A certificate. The film, an inspired version of Spanish film ‘La Cara Oculta’, was first offered to Emraan Hashmi, who rejected the film as he found it to be ‘female-centric’. The Bhatt’s signed Randeep Hooda as the male protagonist, while Aditi Rao Hydari and Sara Loren play the female lead. Murder 3 marks the directorial debut of Vishesh Bhatt, son of Mukesh Bhatt.

Murder 3 Box Office Prediction: Made on a budget of Rs 9 crore, Murder 3 releases on 1200+ screens in India. The brand recall value is excellent, which should result in a 40-50% opening – which is decent for a film without star-value. Murder 3 will be the first choice this weekend for the masses.

Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story (JBKLS), the other Hindi release today, is produced by Tips Industries. A romantic comedy on a gangsters life, the film also shows how people fall in love unknowingly with someone they least expect to. Vivek Oberoi, who usually tends to perform well in ‘bhaigiri’ roles, is paired opposite the beautiful Neha Sharma. Producer Kumar Taurani has promised a film that is light-hearted, entertaining and sensitive.

Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story Box Office Prediction: Vivek Oberoi’s last solo-hit was more than a decade ago (Saathiyaa – 2002). Since then, the actor has starred in 4 or 5 solo films like Prince, Kisna, Kyun Ho Gaya Na, Home Delivery, Kismat Love Paisa Dilli – and none of them have even managed a face-saving opening at the box office. He desperately needs a hit and JBKLS could well be that film, if it carries good reports. The film has been made on a modest budget of Rs 6 crore, but will rely almost entirely on word-of-mouth publicity for it to have any chance at the ticket window.
