2012 has the unique distinction of being a year when each of the films released on major festivals/holidays/occasions has resulted in a 100 crore winner. ‘Agneepath’ [Republic Day], ‘Housefull 2’ [IPL kick-start] and ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ [Eid] have been a testimony to that fact and YRF-SRK starrer/’Son of Sardaar’ [Diwali] and ‘Dabangg 2’ [Christmas] are all set to take the trend further.
No wonder, similar dates for Bollywood movies in 2013 are being keenly looked at and the calendar is filling up fast with majority of stars staking their claim on the closest Friday. Let’s have a look:
- Lohri – Imran Khan’s ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ (Release Date: 11th January) – This is one film which is being shot rather quietly with no major hype or hoopla surrounding it. The ‘Lohri’ release for the film is just apt as this Imran Khan-Anushka Shgarma starrer is set up North where the festival is celebrated in full fervour. One waits to see whether the film sticks to this release date. Update: The film did release and didn’t do too well at the box office. First big disappointment of 2013.
- Republic Day – Saif Ali Khan-Anil Kapoor-John Abraham’s ‘Race 2’ (Release Date: 25th January) – Abbas-Mustan didn’t really gain much from three open weeks that they enjoyed early this year for ‘Players’. However with ‘Race 2’ they are expected to strike back with vengeance. ‘Race’ stays on to be their highest grosser till date and with the film’s sequel being much awaited; they should make the best out of Republic Day weekend. Update: Race 2 did well at the box office, collecting Rs 93 crores. First major success of 2012.
- Eid/Independence Day – UPDATE: The scenario has changed quite dramatically. After 3 super-successful EID releases, Salman Khan is unlikely to have a release this year. But it’s his arch rival Shahrukh Khan who will arrive during the festive weekend. His film will clash with Akshay Kumar’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Again! Should be bigger than JTHJ vs SOS, surely!
- Diwali – Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Krrish 3’ (Release Date: 3rd November) – Get ready for some fireworks this Diwali as Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Krrish 3’ is set to make it to the big screen. Though it is pretty much expected that the 202 crore barrier set by Aamir Khan would be broken by then, it won’t really be wrong to say that 250 crore would be the target set by Roshans. Diwali 2013 should be the ‘baap’ of all holidays for Bollywood!
- Christmas – Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 (Release Date: 25th December) – PK was initially expected to release during Christmas, but it’s the other Aamir Khan biggie – Dhoom 3 – that will arrive during the last weekend of the year. It is on this date that Aamir set the 100 and 200 crore milestones. Could 300 crore be surpassed this year? Time will tell!

for krrish 3 first day collection,just add 5-6 crs more than dabaang -2. if dhoom 3 releasing before krrish 3 and releasing on working day then krrish 3 will collect more 1or 2 crs than dhoom 3.
in krrish 3 there will be many twist. i think priyanka and vivek knowing each other before and priyanka will be vivek girl friend in this krrish sequle. and they planning somthing against ‘krrish’ in krrish 3.

There is a silent competition between Krrish 3 and Dhoom 3. Both film have excused and pushed the days more for their making. And the two are going to release in the same year as Dhhom 2, and Krrish released in the same year of 2006. This time I don’t think Dhoom 3 can do better than Krrish 3. If expectation is met properly, who can beat Krrish 3 the next year?

PK can’t release in 2013. Its shooting has not yet begun. Only Dhoom 3 will release next year. Next year the fight is between Krissh 3 & Dhoom 3. Other films can be big but cannot match the hype these two films generated even without marketing!

6.peekay- aamir and hirani dosent need to tell, but has only 6days clear release because happy new year on 31st jan. still 160-190cr
7.sherkhan- big salman movie budget arround 120cr .but clash with outim2 is nearly hurts 50cr to sherkhan -140-170cr (the collection affects due to bad story and outim2)
8.kick- non holiday release still has no buzz but remake of blockbuster film, so may be arround 130-160cr
in short this yr belongs to aamir.
followed by hritik, salman and srk.
and big for akshay ..
but hoping some by emraan hashmi ranveer sing and sid malhothra.

let see times will tell it is not the matter of buzz AGNEEPATH was lots of Buzz it was open huge and what is the life time collection? the think is HIRTHIK is not the power as compare to Salman, SRK & AMIR.
ETT has great opening the end is 197+crore how come you expect KRISSH-3 kids movie will cross 200+crores no chance anyone bet me?

@aki its not kids movie now, its collection is more than ett I guess, hritik has very large classy fan following, where ett has its various humugoues collection by massey centers.
