Historically, January has been a poor month for the industry. The biggest films of the month have belonged to Hrithik Roshan, who made his debut in the same month with Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai. The highest grosser of January also belongs to Hrithik’s 2012 film Agneepath.
The other big successes of January in the last 10 years or so have been films like Rang De Basanti and Yamla Pagla Deewana. Others like No One Killed Jessica, Baby and Race 2 have been fairly successful.
This year, January would have been no different if not for Akshay Kumar’s Airlift. The contribution of the film for January 2016 is more than 50%. In other words, Airlift will collect more than all other January releases combined.

Congrats to all Akshay fans. He long deserved this return to 100 cr long. What is great that he has achieved both critical and box office acclaim which is always more satisfying than only box office success.
As expected all other movies releasing this month proved to be a dud.

The same people who were praising Bhai and Jai Ho are now calling it a B Grade movie to make Bhai look bigger than Akshay..Why would you do that…?? Don’t you believe that Salman is bigger than Akshay…?? If you can’t believe it yourself, then do not tell others to listen to you…
wazir & airlift are nice films
when jai ho released many bhai fans said it was heart touching best movie ever made and blah blah…now suddenly it became the worst wom movie? lol 4000+ screens + more than a year gap + remake of a block buster hahaha truth is bhai nothing without festive season..dum nahi isiliye 3 no khan bass Eid Diwali Christmas pe ate hai .

nobody stops your floppy to release his movies on Eid or Deewali. Once he released a movie on Christmas (tmk) but the result was same 60cr only..hahaha.
Baby, gobar, brothers, Singh is Bandar etc all are were commercial movies released on holiday periods and got 3500+ screens still struggled to go past even 80cr mark…LOL.
