Biggest Stars in Bollywood – Top 5

It’s been a while since we published a list of the Top 5 ‘most bankable’ stars in the industry and not much has changed since. Khan’s are still the biggest crowd-pullers in India, but Salman who wasn’t in the Top 5 during the pre-Dabangg days has leap-frogged straight to the top of the list.

Here it is – Top 5 Biggest Stars in India (Hindi film industry only).

Salman Khan

1. Salman Khan – In India, Salman is way ahead of the competition and unless something goes horribly wrong with his two upcoming films, he’s likely to stay-put right at the top. It all started with Dabangg beating the opening record of 3 Idiots, at a time when Aamir Khan was considered to be miles ahead of the rest. Since then, Salman has delivered two blockbusters – Ready and Bodyguard. Going by the hype that Ek Tha Tiger has generated and the sequel to Dabangg scheduled to release during Christmas, we wouldn’t be surprised if Salman has two more ‘blockbusters’ to his credit by the end of 2012.

Aamir Khan

2. Aamir Khan – The trust that his audience have in him, is what sets this Khan apart from the rest. Brand Aamir guarantees quality and it simply does not matter if it’s his films, brand endorsements or television shows. Over the years, Aamir has worked hard to build that trust and has managed to sustain it for a prolonged period of time. His only failed effort in the last decade was Mangal Pandey in 2005 and even that film smashed opening records and eventually recovered it’s investment. Ghajini was the first film to cross 100 crores and 3 Idiots is the only film to collect 200 crores (a whopping 60 crores more than the second best!)

Shahrukh Khan

3. Shahrukh Khan – It’s hard to believe that someone who was a rank outsider in the industry, has achieved it all and more. It’s been exactly 20 years since Shahrukh Khan made his debut and the craze that he still commands is unmatched. At the box-office, SRK has been very consistent with almost every film opening to a good initial. Ra One was slammed by the critics, yet managed to collect 125 crores in India!

Hrithik Roshan

4. Hrithik Roshan – Guzaarish was one of the few films that didn’t open too well at the box-office. Otherwise, Hrithik has been very consistent over the years as far as the opening of his films is concerned. His last release, Agneepath now holds the record for the highest opening day collections in history.

Akshay Kumar

5. Akshay Kumar – After several failures in 2010 and 2011, Akshay is back in the Top 5, as both his 2012 releases Housefull 2 and Rowdy Rathore are two of the biggest grossers of the year. He could be a serious contender dislodge one of the Top 3, if his upcoming films Joker and Khiladi 786 do well.

Why is Hrithik ahead of Akshay?

– Even though Akshay’s last two films have been huge grossers, there are three reasons why Hrithik is ranked higher. One, Agneepath now holds the record for the biggest opening day in history. Two, Hrithik’s last two films were both with new directors – Karan Malhotra was on debut and Zoya Akhtar first film ‘Luck By Chance’ didn’t work at the box-office. Three, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara wasn’t a ‘safe’ commercial film. Whereas, both Housefull and Rowdy Rathore were directed by established directors, and the later was a remake of a super-successful Telugu blockbuster. But like we mentioned above, if Joker and Khiladi work, he’ll probably make it to the Top 3.

Why is Shahrukh Khan at No 3, even though none of his films have failed?

– First of all, it’s important to note that this is an India only list. And while SRK has remained consistent, the two other Khan’s have delivered bigger grossers.

  • salman 2 film flop 2008 both movie multistarrer so not fault salman if u count cameo then srk also more flop

  • Sorry for one mistake. God Tussi Tu Great Ho, Hello, Heroes in 2008 and Yuvraaj in 2009. Raone was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Even Abhishek Bachan do not come up with films like this. Earlier before the release I had thought that the Raone would break the record of 3 Idiots. Even though a friend of me a die hard fan of SRK told me not to watch the film, still watched the film and never expected the film to be this much bad.

  • Before the release of 3 Idiots Akshay Kumar had once said that only Aamir can break his record. Upto 3 years Aamir kept his record intact, but now ETT seems to run away with records.

  • guys salman and aamir rock everywhere !!! just look at the comments favoring salman and amir & see the likes on each comment!!! &just look at comments favoring srk …there are more dsilikes than likes!!!
    SALMAN AND AAMIR ROCK!!!

  • @ Riyas HELLO mai sirf guest appearance tha and and Heroes multistarerr thi aur mujhey yaad nahi but average huii thi movie.

  • But Yuvraaj and Main Aur Mrs Khanna flopped very badly in 2009. Every body have a time. Akshay Kumar had given 4 hits on the trot in 2007. Hrithik came up with two blockbusters in 2006(Krissh,Dhoom 2) Aamir came up with 3 Idiots in 2009. SRK came up with OSO in 2007. Now its the time of Salman Khan, let him rule

  • @srk chodu hai a srk fan will sit in a cybercafe in rajastan and tell you that he lives in london or newyork and that thr no ones knows salman ,aamir or hritick but they know srk…..these people are fools..the truth is that srk doesnt have that many fans..he is just a media overhype average actor

  • Now it is almost certain that Dabbang 2, ETT, Talaash, SRK- YRF next will be successes. What will be the fate of films like Shoot Out at Wadala,Race 2, Barfi, Joker,Cocktail etc…

  • I live in india and i know how popular srk is in big cities, he iz a romancing ideal fr every lover..
And i think yashrraj’s next will bring that magic again..
Our king of romance iz back..

  • @medicine, agreed with you buddy.
Srk fans only making fool themselves.if srk was really global star then he had broken the records of 3idiots in 2010 itself. But it was never happened.because srk is fake global star.

  • Etc Channel have predicted Tezz and Housefull 2 would collect 40 crores lifetime in India. But their predictions went upside down. They predicted 10 crore for Vicky Donor, but it collected over 40 crores. Now they are predicting 12 crore life time for Shoot Out at Wadala. What do you think?

  • Akshay should be no 3. Established director doesnt matter..if that is case then srk should rank higher than sallu cos anubhav sinha all previous directed movies are super flops..anyways srk’s still dominating when it come to worldwide ra.1#240cr don2#243cr mnik#202cr!! Btw srk can anytime overtake sallu domestically as he is nt much ahead of king khan…

  • Kahan raja bhoj(srk) , kahan gangu teli(salman , aamir) …… SRK has been consistent over 20 years …. He is the Best ……i admit Salman movies are doing more collections frm past 3 years , but his movies are worthless ….SRK is SRK ….no one can match his charm on the screen ….just wait n watch till dec 2013…..3 BIG BLOCKBUSTERS are coming …..YRF’s next , Chennai Express and HAPPY NEW YEAR ……All 3 will break records in India and also in Overseas …!! SRK = Entertainment Guaranteed ..!!

  • Shahrukh khan is the best acctor of all time srk is realy king of bollywood i love srk…….
