Don 2 released today and while the reviews are mixed, Shahrukh Khan’s performance has received tremendous appreciation from both the critics and movie-goers.
Which brings us to the question; Will SRK win the Best Actor award for his performance in Don 2?
Before we pick our choice, let’s look at some of the best performances of the year (from commercially successful movies only, as others don’t stand a chance)
These are also most likely to be the Filmfare Best Actor nominations for 2011
- Hrithik Roshan for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara – Has no chance this year as Farhan Akhtar’s performance received more appreciation. Is Farhan a contender for Best Actor? Unlikely, but these popular award nominations never fail to surprise!
- Salman Khan for Bodyguard – Well, both his roles in Bodyguard and Ready had no scope for acting histrionics. Salman fans won’t like it, but we doubt he’ll win the Best Actor award this year. If he does attend, a new award category is likely to be created!
- Shahrukh Khan for Don 2 – One of the best performances of the year and easily his personal best since Chak De India. Will he win this year too?
- Ajay Devgan for Singham – A box-office monster with good performances. But Ajay doesn’t attend award functions and has publicly said, he doesn’t believe in them anymore. He’ll be nominated, but they would rather give it to Salman than Ajay. Similar roles, but Salman being the more popular actor, chances of winning for Ajay are bleak.
- Ranbir Kapoor for Rockstar – Again, one of the very best of the year, but does he stand a chance against SRK?
- Amitabh Bachchan for Buddha Hoga Tera Baap / Aarakshan – Both films flopped at the box-office, no chance.
So, the two major contenders are Shahrukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor. Out of two, if we’d to pick one, it would be SRK for Don 2. Simply because we loved his character and his performance.

I’ve watched all those films except Rockstar..I know Salman’s a very popular actor and his recent films were entertaining thus became blockbusters but there wasn’t any extra ordinary acting by him..to be honest..Singam was a good film and Ajay acted well as we saw him in Ganga jal previously..JMND was a good film..all acted well but not great..I thought SRK was disappointing in RA ONE..brave try but the role din’t suit him well..I was annoyed at SRK for experimenting so much..today I’ve watched Don 2, was expecting some disappointing acting like Ra.one BUT SRK amazed me with his out of the world extra ordinarily brilliant acting in DON 2…so natural, so fluent, so expressive and so stylish…I’ve never expected such a great perfomance after a let down like RA ONE..His fan or not, a person who understands what top classt acting is all about must admire SRK for Don 2. Since Don 2 isn’t a movie for everyone, i.e. For poor, old or uneducated viewers, it might not do as good as other films with universal appeal like Bg, ready or Singham BUT with Don 2, SRK has again proved that he’s the Don of acting and the award for best performance shall go to him…thanks.
Best actor award must go for bolywood ka badsha,king khan,srk. Dats it.

@indicine team: i dont think its wise to tell ur personal opinions about SRK, Sallu whoever here in this discussion..bcoz u r the peopl asking about public opinion of best actor 2011..let people to decide… i know srk has a better chance of winning the award since he is a superstar.. but if u talk here favoring him i hope it will b unfavorable for new actors like ranbir.. bcoz undoubtedly he gave one of the best performances in 2011. i dont care wht ppl say.. bcoz they hav their favorite actors and their minds are set with that actor..so, whtevr that actor does, they will like it. srk is great in don2. no doubt.. bt, i think ranbir deserves THIS time.. im talking only about 2011..
after all of these things, evn now i think filmfare will give best actor to SRK. coz, he is their favorite. hrithik is also one of their favorites.. in 2009, they gave hrithik best actor coz, srk ddnt hav a good movie tht year. but i still think aamir deserved the award for ghajini.. but they ar not giving aamir any award..same will happen to ranbir this year for sure.. i know many peopl will DISLIKE this statement.. im not telling this becoz im a huge fan of ranbir.. i became a fan of his bcoz of rockstar. he deserves this.. i saw some guy has told that his performance of rockstar is ordinary,, how can u say that???? he is a great actor..undoubtedly next superstar..but srk’s fan base is huge.. u cant compare them anyhow. srk is a king..but this year..pls pls pls..ranbir deserves it more than shahrukh sir..

Hi im from delhi..just watched don 2 and its awesome..the best actor must go to shah rukh khan for this amazing performance.and some guys over here are saying that taalash(aamir) and ek tha tiger(salman) will make srk forgotten but i think u all have forgot that srk has a divali release next year opposite katrina kaif , anushka sharma and esha deol(maybe).it will be directed by YASH CHOPRA..its a romantic movie. this will be the all time blockbuster..do u agree guys?
