Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan has collected Rs 184.65 crore in its first week at the box office, taking it to the 2nd spot in the highest first week totals of all time.
Unlike Dhoom 3, Bajrangi Bhaijaan was not a franchise film, not did it have a popular music album or action sequences that attract the masses. The credit for the record-breaking opening goes entirely to Salman Khan, who ensured that the film got a huge initial, after which the word-of-mouth took over.
So just how massive is the first week collections of Bajrangi Bhaijaan? Some points:
- Bajrangi Bhaijaan is the 10th highest grosser of all time in just 7 days. Ahead of films like Dabangg, Dabangg 2, Bodyguard, Rowdy Rathore, Singham Returns and Bang Bang just to name a few.
- The first week business of Bajrangi Bhaijaan is more than the combined business of both Akshay Kumar releases so far. Gabbar Is Back 85 crore, Baby 96 crore. Total Rs 181 crore.
- The film smashed the record of the previous highest grossing film of 2015 – Tanu Weds Manu Returns (151 crore) – in just 5 days!
- The first week business of Bajrangi Bhaijaan is more than the combined business of 80% of Bollywood releases so far this year.
- The film was one of the fastest to cross the 100 crore mark (3 days) and the fastest of all time to cross the 150 crore mark (5 days)
- A 20 crore holiday opening day would be considered outstanding for almost all stars in the industry outside the Top 4. But Salman’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan has collected 20 crore or more on 5 consecutive days, beating the previous record of 4 consecutive days by PK.
With one extra holiday or a release period like ‘KICK’ last year, when the Eid holiday fell during the weekdays, Bajrangi Bhaijaan could have probably become the first film to collect Rs 200 crore in its first week itself.

@indicine and those who are saying that PK had more holidays than BB should learn this as well:
1. BB had Eid on Saturday, partial holiday in some states on Monday.
PK only had Christmas on Day 7. Rest were all normal days.
Most partial holidays for PK began after Week 1 like New Year and New Year’s eve.
2. There was an intense cold wave throughout North and East India which hindered PK collections.
BB had only Rains in Mumbai.
3.Due to the vandalism caused by Hindu Groups at various theatres, many people were afraid to go watch PK at theatres.
Nothing of sort for BB.
4. PK had competition from Ugly(Anurag Kashyap film) that got brilliant reviews from critics in the 2nd week(26th Dec onwards)
BB has competition only from 3rd week. Big films earn most in first 2 weeks only nowadays. 3rd week contributes 5-7% only to the total collections.
PK & BB both have had their fair share of equal holidays and competiton.
Indicine, as an unbiased website, I request you to read and post this and do not proclaim that PK had more holidays than BB.
Both were more or less equal as the collections suggest.
Was hoping it would break D3 1st week record.

Dhoom 3 had Collected 179 crores Nett from Hindi Version Only Which Means BB is Clearly Ahead in The Race bcoz BB collected 185cr in hindi version. Dhoom 3 All Version 1st Week Business was Around 189 crores Nett.

Drishyam first day collections will be lower than first day morning shows of Bajrangi.
Drishyam lifetime will be 2 day collections of Bajrangi.
Bajrangi’s lifetime will be 5 or 6 times more than Drishyam.
So come on people.. keep going to Bajrangi. I want it to get more shows in third week than Drishyam in first week. We can do this, can’t we?? :D
