Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani is set to win the much-hyped box office clash, as the epic historical has sustained very well at the box office on Monday. The film has now collected Rs 57.03 crore in just 4 days.
Quite a few people in the trade who we spoke to prior to the release of the film, had feared that the Ranveer Singh starrer might finish below the 70 crore mark. The fact that the film has already collected nearly 60 crore in 4 days is in itself a big win.
Apart from Day 1, the momentum was always with Bajirao Mastani. We had earlier mentioned that the strong weekend trend would ensure a solid hold on Monday. However, the mere 10-15% drop from Friday was even better than expected.
The gap between Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale will now begin to shrink in the next few days. The next test will come on the big holiday for Christmas. The advantage will be with Bajirao Mastani as we enter the holiday week, because films that perform well during the weekdays, end up with higher number of screens and shows in Week 2.
Remember there are two major holidays in the coming week and with excellent mouth publicity, Bajirao Mastani could be a seriously big grosser. A big lesson for analysts, the power of word-of-mouth should never ever be underestimated.

very well said @shobbit
@Indicine your site is good but you are doing chaplusi of Khans, there is no need for giving 4 star to Dilwale and PRDP, i know its Bhai movie but still, because of you many people watched the average movie in theater, they don’t want to watch if it is average movie, and For fans like us we don’t need star we can watched it in theater whether it is SRK HNY or whether it be Salman Bhai movie PRDP. but for others they need there payback and mostly satisfaction if they watch movie in theater they dont blam movie, but they blam to us, so please try to neutral.
@indicine 2:38pm:
Happy to see you admitting your mistake. Hope you will not defend Dilwale (by calling steady collections, excuses like protest etc) anymore…
Excellent collections for Bajirao Mastani..can become the 3rd highest grosser of the year by crossing 150 crore mark.. The fact that it has taken the lead from Monday onwards itself shows the sorry state of affairs for Dilwale..The opening of Dilwale was only Good whereas it had to be bumper/excellent..Question will be raised on Shahrukh Khan’s star power..except for chennai express none of his films have been a major grosser or a blockbuster this decade..where is the old SRK that we all loved to death? Where is the old SRK that we trusted blindly? Where is the old SRK who’s performance alone would rise beyond even a master class script? Dilwale was his biggest film of this decade and will turn out to be the biggest disappointment too..
On the other hand Ranveer has taken giant strides towards super stardom.. I am more happy for him than anyone else because along with Ranbir he is my favourite amongst the younger lot..would love to see him take mature decisions like these in his career from now onwards..All the best
@hafeez, here is the list of highest grossing movie of that particular year. last 11 year data.
2005- no entry- salman Khan
2006- dhoom 2 – hritik Rishab
2007- om shanti om – srk
2008 – gajini – aamir khan
2009- 3idiots- aamir khan
2010- dabang- salman Khan
2011- body guard – salman Khan
2012- ek tha tiger – salman khan
2013- dhoom 3 – aamir khan
2014- pk – aamir khan
2015- bajrangi Bhai jaan – salman khan
5 times it was salman Khan
4 times it was aamir khan
1 time hritik Rishab
1 time its srk.
time has changed. it is amir( most popular worldwide from the box office point of view) and salman who is ruling the Bollywood.
the thing is simple these 2 stars are down to earth and not as active as srk in social media. , that’s why some of us have the wrong impression that srk is still ruling the Bollywood. it’s been more than 10 years. he is now behind these 2 stars. and box office collection shows this.
I am very happy for ranveer, i was not his fan but he loves very much HR and because of that i have started to like him now. I wish he has more sucess in the future.
i feel sad for SRK it is clear that he has lost the battle.
What a film. Just saw it today. Outstanding, brilliant job by the team of BM
some srk fans told, nothing can stop to dilwale become atbb…also some sensible idiots confirmed that in india 500cr, ww 1000cr..unse mera ek hi sawal,jo pure zindegi me koi record nahi tod paya woh kiya todega?…and some u-tern logical samajhdaar idiots @sss,@imdhakkan(astrologergenius),@javed…said that after 18th dec slb beg on streets, going to coma, metal etc..also these astrological genius predicted it as bv2…ab bari hamari hain par besaram u-tern waale ko kiya samjhaye..aayenge phir slogan leke1000 cr,2000cr …sinceretity and hardwork always winner..universaal truth.
@indicine, abhihr is not taking about Dilwale who is under performing.
@indicine lesson for everyone ….
Khans are overrated….
Hence proved..
Surprise winner for everyone. Take a bow Mr Bhansali. A lesson to learn for everyone whether its trade, analyst, fans and actors. give the equal chance to underdogs too.
Monday collection is higher than Dilwale.
BM comes out victorious against every negative looking thing.
Advice to srk fans, this loss is blessing for disguise as srk upcoming films fan and raees are more than Masala potboiler, who knows with fans and raees he shine supreme as now a days audience keenly looking towards content oriented films. A suggestion to Salman fans also the story could also repeat with Raees and Sultan clash if Sultan won’t up to the mark. you can take a revenge for prdp bashing but should also remain down to earth when Raees vs Sultan happen (though now its look it will averted)
Finally, saw it on Sunday. It was one of SLB’s best works, definitely his biggest film of his career. Apart from being a great storyteller, he also knows how to bring the best out of his actors, Ranveer Singh delivered best performance of his career, and he’e easily the favorite to win the Filmfare next year. Salman is unlucky, he was charming and innocent in Bajrangi, but Ranveer just pulled off a power packed performance as a Maratha warrior with great intensity. I had some questions about his dialogue delivery in Ram-Leela as his accent didn’t suit to me, but he was very convincing as Bajirao. Priyanka was great as expected, I wasn’t so sure about Deepika being a sword fighter, but she proved me wrong and delivered a satisfying performance. I wouldn’t call it an ‘epic’, but I found it better than Ram-Leela. My only criticism for it is its visual effects. Some scenes were also shot in dark as it is cheaper and easier to produce visual effects, but it wasn’t much pleasing to watch.
I would say watch it for great performances, tone, production design, and SLB’s direction, if you are fan of his style, it’s a must watch. But, don’t expect it to have great visual effects like Baahubali. War sequences are forgettable.
It has collected more than Dilwale in USA/Canada (where no protests are happening) in last 2 days. It will also put on huge numbers overseas.
I had posted the trend of Dilwale and said that the buzz of Dilwale is not good, while his movie Raees, which was 3rd in line for release after Dilwale, had far better buzz.
Srk fans may not believe it, but it is true, people (including his majority fans) are more than looking forward to Raees than Dilwale or Fan.
The only thing now standing in Raees becoming huge is the release date. Today, no one wants to mess with Salman, so setting aside all ego (whether his or makers) he should try release Raees in the next best release date. May be, just after IPL, could be a good option.
If the content is good, it will do really good business in the long running vacation and post IPL period.
For this to happen he needs to postpone Fan to a later date, like Independence Day etc., and concentrate more on Raees now.
@indicine, abhihr is not taking about bajirao mastani, he is taking about Dilwale who is under performing.
@indicine if BajiraoMastani is widely appreciated film then it would have collected around sat level as it has so many screens with big collecting single screens,in ss it has performed poorly, just imagine if BM had opened with 18.45cr on 1st day then drop could have come more than Dilwale, whereas Dilwale already opened with big numbers hence 50% drop is very good sign for the film as it was made for the family audiences…don’t u remember after falling of 5% from fri on sat Dilwale shown bigger jump than Bajirao mastani on sun,so from friday Dilwale will show double jump at bo,nd most of ss will show only Dilwale from 2nd friday,Family audience will watch only Dilwale,Mind It
Now plz sarook fans dont give those lame excuses as the whole world knos he has been fooling people from many days by making shitty movies and overpromotin them and people short of choice have to enjoy their holiday weekends..but this tym he got a tight slap on his face from the people..now dare he will think of fooling people…so plz do accept the fact..
@JC “No one wants to mess with Salman. So clash should be averted.”
…………………………………………………………………
Ha ha ha. Very good joke. Are you talking about the same Salman who was defeated by flop stars like ranbir, emraan, imran and fardeen khan as they all clashed with Salman and showed him his aukaat. And you are talking about the biggest megastar ever shahrukh khan to avoid clash. Better tell your robotic none actor and biggest flop star ever to avert clash against raees. His all movies have been solo release on eid, diwali or Christmas. So shut your crap. And jai ho proved his aukaat without big festivals.it flopped badly despite solo release and 4000 screens. Do better dont try to mess with the baadshah of Bollywood. Sultan will be disaster if it gets mixed WOM and clashed with raees.
@Sky why are you taking a side of srk and his film and being a so called saint when his cheap, retarded fans always spread negativities against dhoom 3, pk, BB and prdp release? what are you basically trying to imply? they can behave as they want and we should just remain saint and don’t do anything back? haven’t you seen his cheap retarded fans got a big slap on their face who were predicting aamir and salman’s movies flops and srk’s crapwaale as all time blockbuster andsome 300 cr charlie storm and bla bla bla? now they see their aukaat and you are defending them? shame on you. we will continue to bash srk forever because of his ow arrogance and his cheap, retarded fans. that’s it.
Lol
