As a 2009 New year special, we start this new section on our site called “Ask Us”. Its pretty darn straight forward.

Have any query / question about stars, movies, box-office or anything related to Bollywood? Ask Us! Just submit your question(s) below, in the usual comments section. We will try and answer as many questions as we possibly can.

Note – Questions should only be in English and try to be as clear with your question as possible, it will help us understand better.

    Does keep Fasting on The holy month of Ramadan because they are all muslims thats why m asking ?

    Shahrukh has said, he does try to fast once in a while, whenever he possibly can. Regarding others, we cannot reveal, as they wouldn’t want us to. Its something personal!

  • Hi.
    Just wondering..abt the music of the films nowadays. Having good songs in a movie, is it just to promote the movie or does the producers still earn big money from the cd sale? I did hear once that even though the movie “Papa kehte hai” was a flop, the producers did make good money from the music sale, cause the music was so good.
    And can you please give some info abt who the lyricist Irshad Kamil is. Is he and indian?

    You mean the movie Papa Kehte Hai (1996) or Papa Kehte Hain song of Aamir Khan in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak?

    Anyways, music business has been severly affected by piracy. Music CD / Cassette sales are very very poor

    Yes, the film has done better at multiplexes. I didn’t get your second question. DO you mean, what are the chances of wanted if its a bad movie?

  • SRK detained in US. Some questions please answer them

    1) Shahrukh did not accompany his baggage. So the US customs questioned him about his baggage where abouts. He was kept in a room for more than one hour. What is wrong with it? He was not beaten, he was not stripped of his clothes, he was not even abused. What is the problem?

    2) As SRK has been to the US many of times but why only this time he faced the problem. Coincidence? I dont think so

    3) In his first speech after this happened he said becuase ‘my name is khan’ clearly promoting his movie. As the news is international and his next movie is distributed by Fox studios, is it just afterall yet another publicity stunt for his film?

  • Indicine Team: Did the critics praised the movie (Dil Se) or not? I know it didn’t please some stupid audience and didn’t do very well at the box office.. but believe me.. till today I’ve never admired any indian movie the way I did for Dil Se.. I watched it last night again for the 10th time.. loved the script, loved Shahruk’s performance & Manisha.. loved her simple beauty.. loved the song.. loved the direction..loved the background music..loved preity zinta’s role..loved everything about this movie, but while releasing time, I wasn’t following up the news and what the critics said.. all I know that Shahrukh worked very hard on this movie and then he said the following: this movie is good for the indian audience to watch after 10 years from now ( and I’m saying: they’ll appreciate it after 20 years from now!)

    I’d like to know the following: if the movie didn’t do well at the box office, did the critics appreciate this unique, extra-ordinary movie?

    First of all Fathiya, you liking a flop film doesn’t make the audience that rejected the film “stupid”. To each his own, Dil Se was more of a critic pleasing film than a commercial entertainer. Bollywood actors have to choose between commercial films that do well at the box office versus quality films that probably may not have the mass appeal. The only popular actor that manages to balance out both is Aamir Khan and to a certain extent Hrithik Roshan. All other actors are purely commercial.

    So yes Dil Se was praised by the critics but didn’t do well commercially.

    Kaminey is a HIT for sure. It has sustained well on Monday. Life Partner has picked up, should do decent business

  • Indicine Team: that’s what I thought.. the critics loved Dil Se and applauded for it.. that’s for me is enough.. as u know.. I don’t believe in box office collections and never considered any movie is good or bad according to the income.. as some dumb stupid movies also win.. and do u consider a flop movie at the box office is a bad one?! Then why Omkara won many awards?!!!!!!

    Critics are the ppl who see the good and bad in any movie.. and when they praise a good movie, appreciate it, reward it.. so it means the movie was good despite the box office collection.. you can’t measure and consider some hanko panko kachra e.g. Welcome or Golmaal as good movies just because the audience loved them and did money!! that’s normal in this world.. and Akshya Kumar himself said that the movie Transformer did almost 350 or 360 million of dollars at the box office but the critics gave it 1/5!! So.. how do u rate any movie when this happens?! Do u beleive in critics opinions or box office collections?!

    You can place some ads for cheap products and then they win lots of money.. but does the money or what u gained by selling that cheap product would make the product a good one in quality?! No ofcourse and vice versa.

    If the critics praised movies like Dil Se & Omkara but didn’t do so well at the box office so this means that these 2 movies are above the audience’s level of thinking.. they don’t appreciate good cinema, good scripts & good directions! we can say the majority don’t like deep strong scripts, but shallow one! they love entetraining movies only.. and some movies would please 80% of people but not the 20%.. so what do u think then? The 20% are wrong and the 80% are right?

    Fathiya, you cannot generalise if a film is good or bad. What you may like someone else may not. For example, Love Story 2050, not even a single critic gave it anything above 1.5 stars. It was trashed, but you loved it.

    Even in critics, reviews are not very consistent. There will be some critic who probably didn’t like a good movie, for some reason of his own. All are right, our opinions differ from person to person, hence we have so many choices, so many different kind of films catering to different audiences.

    Omkara was highly accalimed but frankly, it lacked entertainment value to work at the box office. It was arty! A film that combines wholesome entertainment with quality content is the true winner, like Lage Raho Munnabhai which was critically and commercially successful. But that’s a very rare combination to achieve for any filmmaker.

    So you just cannot say, a critically acclaimed movie is a good one, or a commerically successfully movie is a bad one. It could be vice versa. Om Shanti Om was critically accalimed, but we hated it! Till this day, I do not know what critics or the audience liked in the film, its unbearable to me. See, opinions differ.

    But at the end of the day, its the box office success that matters. If Shahrukh Khan had done 10 Dil Se’s and all the movies had flopped, he wouldn’t be the big superstar he is today. Box office success alone keeps an actor alive, a couple of flops, no matter how critically acclaimed those films are.. obituaries of the actor’s career will be published on the same website / paper that praised the film!

    DDLJ (Still running), Sholay, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.. and many Amitabh Bachchan films.. we do not have enough data of the older films

  • hai indicine…i cant understand one thing… how this songs of SRK movies are all super hit…if we take other actors they r not getting very good songs in every movies… but this SRK movies are all filled with mind blowing songs… how this happens only to SRK..

  • Yes,i mean to say wht happen if movie wanted is bad? Wht is people reaction after seeing the promo of movie”blue”,(even though i think it will be trash since 3 big movies will arrive on same day”)?

    If Wanted is bad, it will crash heavily on the first Monday of its release. THe reactions to Blue are pretty positive

  • luck is a flop??? but it had good opening….it didnt recover even its production cost???did the movie went frm theatres within 2 weeks?

    Sorry Vinshal, Luck hasn’t done good business overseas. But it has done decent business in India. And yes, recovered its costs in most circuits.. It is still running in a few screens

  • Indicine: thanks for yr reply.. you’re absolutely right.. I know all these facts which u mentioned.. that even the stardom of any actors depends on the box office collections.. that they’ve to do movies which please the audience.. I know that.. and u said already, in one of the pages, that the only actor who tries to do movies which is successful in the 2 sides is Aamir Khan.. yeah Aamir Khan did some successful movies, but his Mangal Pandey – which I consider better than Range de Basanti – didn’t do well at the box office.. and I’m really surprised that the critics praised the movie Om Shanti Om?!!! How?! And why?!! Now I can’t trust the critics any more!

    I didn’t like OSO when I saw it in cinema and got bored.. I didn’t like the 1st half and found it stupid, pathetic and boring.. but the 2nd half wasn’t bad, what was good in this movie only the songs and the costumes of 70’s.. I loved the songs.

    Yes OSO was praised by the critics. But why do you jump to conclusions? Noone can be spot on with reviews, just like no movie can be liked by everyone.

  • hey indicine.. a big doubt for me…. how this songs of all SRK movies are superhit…y this is not happening to other actors..others may also get a hit song in some films but this SRK gets mind blowing songs…. is SRK strict abt his songs or is it just a luck…it cant be a luck becos 100% songs of SRK is hit… any idea???

    Most of Hrithik’s songs are hits, most of Aamir’s songs are hit.. Its just that when the movie is successful, songs are a hit too.. Paheli’s music didn’t do well, it was a SRK movie but flopped at the box office. One more reason is, most of the directors he works with always produce good music. Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar, Yashraj Films..

    It has 13 songs, so should be more than 3 hours. No Ashutosh Gowariker film has been under 3 hours! Exact runtime is unknown!
