As a 2009 New year special, we start this new section on our site called “Ask Us”. Its pretty darn straight forward.

Have any query / question about stars, movies, box-office or anything related to Bollywood? Ask Us! Just submit your question(s) below, in the usual comments section. We will try and answer as many questions as we possibly can.

Note – Questions should only be in English and try to be as clear with your question as possible, it will help us understand better.

  • Why Love Aaj Kal is not a blockbuster in India?

    Quite obviously because it didn’t do enough business. Its a super-hit.

  • Why Kajol stopped acting after her marriage?! She was at the peak of her success, and ppl loved her so much everywhere.. in India and overseas, and she got just one girl to look after.. then why doesn’t she do lots of movies?! I think she’s been married for more than 5 years now and she did so far only 2 movies!

    Her own personal decision. She rejected Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna and 3 Idiots. Her first priority is and always was her daughter.

    Yes, it has done better overseas. Movies from Yashraj Films usually open well in the overseas markets.

  • hai indicine….who was appreciated more for the film karan arjun… SRK or salman….i think the major factor for the victory was the song jaathi hoon mein….

    Both were equally appreciated, although Salman Khan was nominated in the Best Actor category by Filmfare. Jaathi Hoon Mein was quite popular.

  • How much love aaj kal needed to gross to become a blockbuster?

    The movie was probably slightly affected due to non-stop releases after the strike. It had to cross 70 crores for a blockbuster

  • hai indicine… can u say the charaters of abhishek, vikram, aishwarya, prithviraj in the upcoming maniratnam film… who is the hero…. in an interview i saw prithviraj saying that he was the hero… is it true????

    Not much has been revealed about the movie. Abhishek is supposedly playing the role of Ravan.

    Victory – Critics slammed it, box-office business was poor.
    Kambakht Ishq – Critically trashed, did above average business at the box office

    Nothing confirmed.
    Dhoom 3 – Aditya Chopra could direct it, he wants SRK and Hrithik in the movie.
    Don 2 – Will be directed by Farhan.. Should release in 2011
    International Hera Pheri – No news
    Munnabhai 3 – Munnabhai Chale Amrika could be Rajkumar Hirani’s next after 3 Idiots, atleast we hope so.
    Krrish 2 – After Kites hopefully.

  • Why are you saying that Wanted is set to beat Love Aaj Kal as Love Aaj kal has performed exceptionally in India As well as overseas whereas Wanted has underperformed in the overseas?

    Wanted is a bigger hit in India, because its distributors share is higher. Including overseas Love Aaj Kal is much bigger.

    I wanted to ask a question about QSQT. Though it is known to all and sundry, that QSQT was a path-breaking smash hit and swept Filmfare Awards that year and also won the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment, and that it inspired a nation-wide craze for Aamir and Juhi. But I want to know about its exact box office status.

    Was QSQT, the highest grossing film of 1988?

    Whereas on some other unofficial blog sites, it is mentioned that QSQT was the second highest grossing film of the year…

    So what is the exact B-O status of QSQT? Where does it stand among the top grossers of 1988?

    Hi Ramya, Good question. According to our database, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak is the second biggest grosser of 1988. Infact, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit’s Tezaab did about 60% more business than QSQT.

    QSQT did around 10.25 crores while Tezaab did more than 16 crores (gross figures)

I got the answer now as I’ve visited boxofficeindia.com and read the report of 22.9 which mentioned that Dil Bole Hadippa in the opening did an average business but Salman’s Wanted did a poor business! that’s what I expected, that Rani’s film would do better overseas and these kind of movies r appreciated by overseas ppl more than ppl in india (as it always happens!) so action movies r successful in india, but not in overseas.

    Action movies don’t do well overseas. Infact hardcore actions films perform poorly at major multiplexes in India too. Ghajini did well because of the hype and the fact that it starred Aamir Khan who has built up such a reputation over the years that he is now blindly trusted by his audience.

    herman was good. much better than 2050.

    many songs were unnecessary and long.
    ending was pathetic. the flm deserved a gud ending.
    according to me the choice should have been left to audience which girl herman should have married.
    that way pple would be thinking abt the muv after the theatre also. and evryone would have their own views. i think that would be much more interesting.

    This is just a personal opinion. It has to be Priyanka. She was brilliant in What’s your Rashee. Kareena has nothing much apart from Jab We Met. Katrina has a long way to go as an actress.

    Devdas was a HIT, Mangal Pandey was an Average grosser due to its earth shattering opening.

    Too early to predict. Priyanka Chopra is the only star, so it’ll rely heavily on content.

  • Nothing apart from Jab We Met? Have you seen Kareena in Omkara or Dev???

    Well yeah, she was good in Omkara. But her role was restricted to about 45 mins of screen time. Omkara was Saif’s movie.

    On the other hand Priyanka.. Fashion, What’s Your Rashee, Kaminey.. Her Dostana performance was also pretty popular.

    1. Very hard to predict. Lot depends on the remaining releases of the year.

    What’s your Rashee has opened to a below average response. First weekend was good, crashed during the weekdays.

  • Aankhein was not a flop , i checked on many sites , it was an average movie despite being a different story . as far as humko deewana kar gaye is concerned , it was a flop though i think even that was a nice movie

    For a film with big stars, it was considered a failure back then just like Mangal Pandey is a FLOP for Aamir even though it did average business.

Sushmita said in the latest interview with her that she wants her movie to sell. to work at the box office.. do u think it’s a good movie or because Shahrukh will show up as a guest appearance so ppl will go and watch it? and who r the actors in the leading role in this movie?

    Fardeen Khan and Sushmita Sen are the lead stars. Shahrukh has a special appearance (dont expect it to be as long as Billu).

    With such a huge delay, don’t expect much, both content wise and at the box office.

  • When will akshay movie dhan dana dan released?????It was said to be nov 27 but movie kurbaan which is on same day first promo has been out but this movie trailer hasnot come.This mean it will not be released on 27th nov.

    Expect the De Dana Dan trailer soon. Priyadarshan directing Akshay Kumar is reason enough for audience to go and watch it. Don’t think it will require heavy promotion.
