As a 2009 New year special, we start this new section on our site called “Ask Us”. Its pretty darn straight forward.

Have any query / question about stars, movies, box-office or anything related to Bollywood? Ask Us! Just submit your question(s) below, in the usual comments section. We will try and answer as many questions as we possibly can.

Note – Questions should only be in English and try to be as clear with your question as possible, it will help us understand better.

    What is the name of the english song ( -or- the name of that album ) ; which was played in background during party scene when Tina Munim introduces Rishikapoor to Simi Grewal in her palace ?

    The song was like “Music is my nature -or- Music makes man so fast..””

  • Indicine Team:Can You tell me the process going on promoting the blue?It just 5 week to go n I have not heard any promoting thing abt this movie.Eventhough,frm Nepal Local radio n Some of Indian channel,i have heard this is most awaiting movie.But Have Not heard frm any actor/actress frm this movie ,promoting this movie……What affect will it have ?Akshay usually promote movies in last couple of year like singh is king,welcome,Heyy baby very much but nowadays he seem far away frm promoting movie..Like In kambakkht ishq he just promote 2-3 days before releasing and Wht does it indicate? I donot understand wht u said last time clearly …Can u tell me detail on tht?

  • Q: Do u think that the movie “What’s your Raashee” is a good movie?

    Is it really Ashoutosh Gawariker’s movie? I saw the songs on the indian channels but the movie doesn’t look a quality film, like his previous films e.g. Laagan, Swades & J. Akbar

    What’s your Rashee is different from what Ashutosh has done before. It is a light hearted entertainer. He’s a great director, so fingers crossed, should be good!

    Well, what do we say? The reason we do not publish reviews of smaller movies, is due to the poor response (read comments). We publish content for readers, if readers don’t respond with comments, it doesn’t seem worthwhile.. Quite similar to how the movie business works :)

    Anyway, Agyaat didn’t do well at the box office and was thrashed by the critics. RGV didn’t take it too lightly and made some valid points..

    Recently, I read somewhere that Akshay Kumar had auditioned for the role of Shekhar in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, which was later played by Deepak Tijori. Is that true? Can you please confirm whether this is true or false?

    Yes, Akshay auditioned for the role of Shekhar Malhotra, was rejected and the role eventually went to Deepak Tijori. Funny life, Akki is now a superstar and Deepak Tijori is directing b-grade flicks.

    Its from Sarah Brightman’s album.. The song title is Eden.. You could find it on Youtube or just google for the song.

  • Indicine thanks for your reply. However, here I am looking for pure objective reply in terms of no.s. I have also done my little research in past few days and if NO. OF HITS is considered, no one comes close to Hema Malini.
    Madhuri Dixit starting from 1984 until 2002 altogether did almost 67-68 movies and her no. of hits as per my knowledge is 14.

    So mate, actually no body saw as many HITS as Hema Malini before or after her.:)
    I am myself also working the HITS from early 80s to late 90s and shall post my observation here once done.

    Great research Rickey.. Quite surprised that Madhuri’s success ratio is so poor. What retained her at the top was a hit every year

    1988 – Tezaab
    1989 – Ram Lakhan, Tridev, Parinda
    1990 – Dil, Kishen Kanhaiya, Thanedaar
    1991 – Saajan
    1992 – Beta
    1993 – Khalnayak
    1994 – Hum Aapke Hain Koun
    1995 – Raja
    1996 – No hits
    1997 – Dil To Pagal Hai
    1998 – Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan (Did reasonable business, special appearance)

    These films kept her on top for about a decade, what also helped was the awards and nominations. Also, Dayavan did good business of around 2.9 – 3.2 crores, which was pretty good during those days.

    Regarding Hema Malini, give us sometime to come up with detailed info. As of now, it seems like she has close to, if not than, 50 decent grossers. Which is quite extraordinary!

  • Indicine Team: why do u allow ppl swear and use bad language on your website?! why did u remove the section which we used to report the abusive comments and you used to delete them?

    Some idiots here hate us if we just criticized a movie which they liked, or criticized an actor which we don’t like..even if we found him a bad actor and we expressed our opinion about him! don’t we hv the right to do so as long as we’re not describing them with bad words e.g. monkey or donkey or haklu.. as they always do!

    The Report comment option was removed because users were reporting comments that weren’t against the rules.. We used to receive 200 – 300 emails everyday and most of the comments were unnecessarily reported.

    500 comments are submitted everyday, and we randomly check some of them. Unfortunately it ain’t possible for us to check every comment. We are working on a user registration system in the new version of our site, which will go online in the first week of October.

    I watched the Movie..All Actor having the Best Role & The Best Acting. Jacky, Arbaaz, Sohail, etc.

    We tried reviewing smaller movies, but the response is pretty poor i.e the number of comments. As mentioned somewhere above, we publish content that users want to read and comment on, most ‘small’ movie reviews, get no comments.

    Mithun is extremely popular in Bengal.. One of the biggest stars there..

    Exactly as you said. Hema’s decent grossers would be something around 50 and the word extraordinary is apt for her performance on the Box Office.

    Even I was surprised to see only 14 HITS out of 68 movies of Madhuri but although less in number, she gave HUGE hits and was lucky in the sense that she managed 1 hit every year.

    Once again congratulate you for this innovative idea of Ask Us you and thank you for this unique platform where we can have some meaningful discussion on cinema.

    If you compare Maduri to the current top stars like Kareena, Katrina.. They are dependent on the actors to give them those hits, Madhuri movies were literally dominated by her presence.. and although Katrina’s success ratio is pretty good, she hardly has had anything to do in those numerous hits. She was plain lucky to be paired with Akshay during his ‘purple patch’.. Kareena’s success ratio is poor, performance wise she has nothing to boast off except Jab We Met.

    2. Hmm.. hard to predict. She has good screen presence, but dont think she can handle complex / women centric roles.

    Thanx for the detailed response in which you argue well but again missed my logical points.
    As far as you say that krrish completely rides on hrithik thats why it did such massive business and he deserve award than we can say that ghajini om shanti om & singh is king all these films ride on their star powers so from that logic these actors also deserve the award.
    Its a difference of opinion between you and me and you have your logic which i respect and I have my logic which you need to respect.
    My point of view regarding popular awards are that if you want to give award to commercially success film than give best actor award to that film irrespective of acting other wise give it to the one who really deserves it purely on the basis of acting.
    It’s not my opinion it’s a fact that those years in which hrithik films were biggest hits he got the award for those films and in addition he got award for jodha akbar too which is only hit. so popular awards change their trends with hrithik films right from the start of his career in 2000. I am still in a shock how he got all the awards for kaho na pyar hay in which his only best thing is his dancing other wise film had very bad story line and only good thing about the film is music but you can say that its a biggest blockbuster this year the point which I mentioned above.
    one more thing which i need to suggest that please band those users who use foul & abusive language other than any reason to prove their comments.

    I do respect everything that you have said so far. But disagree with you on several points. Purely dancing skills or great music cannot take a movie to a blockbuster. It was a combination of a lot more things. Kaho Na Pyaar Hai may not really be a classic, but it was loved by the majority of audience who watched it. Hrithik was a overnight superstar, no newcomer before or after have managed to create that kind of impact all over India. His bad choice of movies let him down after the success of KNPH but he appreciated for all his performances.

    Now talking of Popular movies getting the awards, it again depends which popular movie to give the award to. If we go by your logic of giving the lead actor of the biggest hit the best actor award then the Best actor for 2002 should have gone to Dino Morea (Raaz) and not SRK for Devdas, which was only a HIT.

    So its a combination of critical acclaim and popularity of the actor / performance. Like mentioned somewhere above, Filmfare is 50% Jury and 50% Audience vote, how authentic we don’t really know.

    Also, its not only with Hrithik. Black didnt do too well, but Amitabh won the award. Swades flopped yet SRK got it. And better performances have been ignored to popular performances in the past too. One of the reasons why Aamir doesn’t attend any awards.

    It has done “mind boggling” business on Monday.. Beaten the records of Ghajini, Rab Ne, Singh Is King.. HIT for sure, could be a Blockbuster if it sustains.

    Shahid’s role was much more complex.. He probably would get it, unless something better comes our way in the coming 3 months

  • hi indicine team. liked ur article on script, dialog……
    and what i liked mostly was the simple description, no technical words etc. perfect for common readers.

    i would request u to plz post an article in similar format about all the processes involved in the film making. pre production pre prod and post production (i am interested mostly in the di & vfx part) publicity, distribution, home video, tv etc. and the roles of all the crew(as much u can write) like director,producer,makeup man, grips, lyricists, etc… i think this will be helpfull to all the movie buffs and info seekers(like myself). but plz write it in simple language so that everyone can clearly understand it.

    i know it will be quite difficult but plz try it.

    Highly unlikely, he’s too old to make an impact now. No capable directors are willing to sign him in lead roles. Don’t think supporting roles like the one in Dostana is gonna help his career.

  • I’d like to ask the same question.. as Vinshal did. I saw in the same year a picture of Aishwariya which my friend displayed it on the screen, saying that Aishwariya is vulgar and isn’t a decent girl and that there’s a pic. of her on the net, and while arguing with her.. that the picture might be a fake one, using her face but not her body.. she displayed it ( I don’t know if it was for a magzine or not) but I remeber the picture.. she’s lifting her top up, and not wearing a bra!!!

    Well its fake.. Ash would never pose nude for a magazine or any other media for that matter..
