Akshay Kumar has announced his next film with his ‘Baby’ and ‘Special 26’ director Neeraj Pandey. The film, titled ‘Rustom’, will release in theatres during the Independence Day weekend next year.
Interestingly, the same weekend has been booked by Ashutosh Gowariker’s ambitious period film ‘Mohenjo Daro’ starring Hrithik Roshan in the lead.
Not only does it set up a massive clash between superstars like Akshay and Hrithik, but it’ll also be a clash between two of the most acclaimed directors in the industry, Neeraj Pandey and Ashutosh Gowariker.
Hours before his 48th birthday, Akshay made the announcement on Twitter.

Before commenting anything about this topic i want to say Happy Birthday Akshay Kumar . May God bless you and remain fit and healthy forever . I wish this is your Best Birthday . Neeraj Pandey and Ashutosh Gowariker are both on the same league when it comes to direction . Hrithik was excellent in JA and Akki was outstanding in Special 26 and Baby . I don’t want both these movies to clash . Till now Dussehra and 2nd October 2016 is vacant so they can book this date . Also there are 3 national holidays in India every year – Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti . Airlift is releasing on 22nd January 2016 so it will have a Republic Day Holiday . Rustom looks like a brilliant title . The only thing that worries me is the word Romantic Thriller . Because NP’s movies do not have Romance but adrenaline rush and thrill quotient . Some months back it was reported that Baadshaho will clash with Mohenjo Daro but Baadshaho was preponed . So i hope the clash will be averted and Rustom will be postponed . Because both Akshay and Hrithik are neighbours and both live in Juhu . Also both of them are very good friends so i think they will find a solution . actually don’t take Akhshay for granted. He too he has his own fan following as well as Hrithik does. i Think the success of each film depends not only on tthe aactors or directors, consider the contents oof the stories the budget the hard work of the crew as well as the chemistry between the lead actors. agar clash hua bhi possibility is that both films would do well due to good directors like ashutosh and neeraj both films would get good reviews from critics… so therefore both films could emerge hits…. haters need to get a life… akki’s film would only struggle if its a remake or if its directed by nonsense director… but don’t forget this is neeraj pandey who completely changed akki’s image after successful films like sp26 and baby and now rustom….

Mohenjo-Daro would easily open bigger than Rustom, it is Ashutosh’s dream project, and he waited for years to get Hrithik’s dates for it. Hrithik has given record openings with his last few movies, Agneepath broke opening day record, Krrish 3 broke single day record, Bang Bang got one of the top 5 biggest openings despite clash with Haider. On the other hand, Rustom will be directed by a debut director, and Akshay hasn’t been lucky in recent memory to give big openings.
Hrithik and Akshay are friends, and there is no logic reason for team Rustom to clash with Mohenjo-Daro as the Independence Day isn’t a festival and offers only 1 holiday unlike Eid, Diwali and Christmas which have multiple holidays due to festive season. I think it was just a promotional strategy by team Rustom who wanted to raise people’s eyebrows and get the publicity to promote the film, it will eventually find another release window, it would be better for both teams.
