Airlift is one of those rare films that earned both critical acclaim and commercial success. The target audience was limited in number, yet the film went on to become a 125 crore plus grosser at the box office.
More importantly, the ‘classes’ returned to multiplexes to watch an Akshay Kumar film after a long time. Films like Baby and Special 26 did fairly well at the box office, but both weren’t profitable ventures like Airlift.
