Airlift has become the 18th fastest film to cross the 100 crore mark and the 4th fastest non-festive (i.e releasing outside Eid, Diwali and Christmas) release of all time.
Four films have now crossed 100 crore in 3 days, those are Dhoom 3 (only one holiday on Sunday), Happy New Year, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Bang Bang and Singham Returns are the fastest non-festive releases (crossed 100 in 5 days), followed by Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (7 days). The two films tied at the 4th spot are Jai Ho and Airlift.
The other films to cross 100 in 10 days are Ra One and Dabangg.

Both Bajirao mastani and airlift received rave reviews from critics, both clashed with an another movie and WOM of both the movies are extremely positive. Bajirao mastani has collected over 180cr lifetime. If Akki is really a bigger star than Ranveer then airlift will surely cross Bajirao mastani’s lifetime collections…
It’s so funny that before the release people used to run down Akki by predicting Airlift will do at max 80 crores…Now when it actually did cross 100 in Jan, usually a dull month, with a niche genre and just a 2600 screen release, people are still running it down…The fact is it is on its way to become the highest grosser of Jan beating all 3 – Jai Ho, Agneepath and Race 2. If people still feel they were less commercial than airlift then I think are not in their sense….
Akki is one star who should get a PR team as he is the one in top 5 to whom media has been really unfair .. I will say Akki has cemented his status as one of the most bankable stars despite the media while to others media has been very friendly…extra marks to akshay for that
It’s not just Akshay though even Salman’s movies get usually panned by critics while the same people suck up to Srk and Aamir…I still remember when Gadar actually had more footfalls and a bigger hit than Lagan, how media created a perception that Dil Chahta Hai and Lagan were bigger hits…On the other hand the movie with highest ever footfalls was not even getting mentioned…That’s how common people are fooled but eventually with social media even common people have started posting figures…That is why we realize that truth is different than what media portrays and that is why again and again salman opens big while srk with all the media backing him has started to underperform…

any top star should be able to do 150 crores unless if the movie is like airlift…for example if hf3 does less than 150 or any of the khans movie do less than 150 then it is less…dilwale is less than 150 hence it is underperformer..same for any movie if it features khans, akki, hrithik and ajay…even big banner films such as yrf, dharma if stars ranveer ranbir varun etc and release on edx then less than 150 is strictly average…

So total nett India collection (96+89+85+92+103+*) I.e 460+ crore and counting nett box office in India alone 12 months with clashes and without festive holidays or massive release. It’s not a joke guys any sensible person will not question Akkis stardom henceforth. He’s not called a parallel industry just like that giving work to thousands of film industry people by working in multiple films.
Srk last non festive collection : 72 crore mnik
Salman last non festive collection : 112 crore jaiho
Amir last non festive collection :92 crore talaash.

Don’t give silly excuses like periodic drama, less budget and blah blah. If commercial genre and big budget is everything then WTH brothers, Singh is bling etc not even collected 80cr lifetime. Accept the truth that airlift’s WOM is extremely positive just like Bajirao mastani, TWMR etc. If Akki is really a superstar then airlift will surely collect 150cr minimum.
It’s good for industry that even movies like ‘Airlift’ can do as good a business as the commercial movies , it will encourage directors to make more varieties & genres of movies in general .
Though the ‘100 crores collections’ has really become a small number but it’s only the khans & to an extent hrithik who can give 100 crores in today’s time in any kind of situation with their each & every movie, but for others the release period, content, wom & other factors dictate the movie’s fate .

I wouldn’t ever attribute Airlift’s success solely to floppy or his fans alone bcos it was too good a movie & being a patriotic one released during republic day period it was watched by fans of other stars too bcos of its content & very +ve wom, instead had it starred khans (Salman & aamir in particular) or even hrithik & with such a good wom it would have easily collected 200 – 230 crores by the end of its run.
I really feel that this great movie deserved a much bigger star & better actor than the floppu and so the only benefit of doubt that I can give to salman or aamir or even hrithik not doing these kind of movies is bcos the directors feel that these superstars might become bigger than the movie itself or that their superstardom might overshadow the subtlety or deftness involved in those movies .
When it comes to their movies : salman or aamir define their movie while for other smaller stars like floppu or haklia it’s their movies that define them , there’s a hell lot of difference between the 2 statements.
Now that people are appreciating superstardom along with the movie’s content I am sure that salman & aamir too would do the ‘baby’ or ‘Airlift’ kind of good patriotic movies in the near future and release it during the republic day or independence day periods, then we will all get to know the real difference between such movies having the namesake superstar called akki in them or the real reigning superstars like salman or aamir starring in them .
Having said all these, I will still stick to what I had been saying about Airlift all long , that this movie is a special one & shouldn’t be ‘quantified ‘ on basis of its collections , the movie would remain a great & classy movie irrespective of its collections , perhaps the only regret or the only issue I have with this movie is that I felt it should have had superstars like aamir or salman or hrithik or ajay D doing such great movie and not a clownish joker like akki doing it , anyway well done team Airlift for giving us such a great movie.
