Airlift has done the unthinkable. The Akshay Kumar starrer has surpassed its Sunday business by collecting Rs 17.8 crore on the Republic Day holiday, taking its 5-day total to Rs 72.52 crore.
The collections of Airlift is now more than the combined business of the other two releases of 2016 (Wazir – 40 crore and Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 currently at 26.75 crore).
Airlift is certain to cross the 85 crore mark in its first week and could get close to 90 crore net business - which would be more than the lifetime collections of Akshay’s 2015 films like Gabbar Is Back, Brothers and Singh Is Bling.
Mastizaade is the only release next week and that film is targeted at the single-screen audience, much like Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 this week. Airlift will remain unaffected at multiplexes, what with some exhibitors already planning to increase the shows of the film in Week 2.
The word-of-mouth is phenomenal in cities, with a section of the trade calling it the best received Akshay Kumar film of all time.
The lifetime business could go anywhere from here – 100 crore business is a certainty and Airlift is more than likely to be Akshay’s highest grosser ever (beating the long standing Rs 133 crore total of Rowdy Rathore). It also has a chance to surpass the 150 crore mark (keep an eye on the comparison with Tanu Weds Manu Returns) and also topple the lifetime business of Shah Rukh Khan’s Christmas release ‘Dilwale’.
More importantly, the month of January hasn’t been great for the industry over the years. But Akshay is now making the Republic Day weekend his own. Airlift will be the all-time biggest grosser of the month, beating the lifetime total of Agneepath (122 crore) and Jai Ho (112 crore).

Bound to be highest week1 of jan by crossing jai ho 83 boi and 86 indicine..today can be seen as monday so a drop 50% can give the movie a total of 8-9crs and taking the 1st week total of around 87-89 crs..And indicine even saala khadoos is releasing produced by raju..which target multiplexes hope that doesn affects airlift much..but i m sure the movie will retain alot of screens and yeah the performance is after facing competition which definitely affected the mobie by atleast 10% as kkhh3 had become a brand and it had some appeal at plexes as well it was not a complete ss movie…but alls well that ends well…more power to airlift…but i still believe there is alot of competition and still doing these sort of collections with a niche genre is commendable..hoping for the best and wishing that movie scores 150+ and if possible near bm…tough though but never say never….Cheers to us Akkians..

Hey colleagues, ‘Floppy King’ said that he/she will quit this forum if this movie crosses 100cr and i say if this does not cross 150cr, i`ll quit indicine. Credit should be given where deserved irrespective of who is the actor of a movie rather than being a biased fan wasting hard earned money on craps like Dilwale, Happy New Year, Bang Bang, PRDP and others. finally akshay must realise the power of doing good films…..it all started with Holiday and Baby….both were nice films but real box office success will come with Airlift now….
just hope Housefull 3 is an entertaining film and not like some of the most silly films akshay has done……..if Housefull 3 is decent on content, it surely has the potential to touch 200 cr!

Airlift is better than BB and I can bet if airlift would release on eid then it would have crossed 350 Cr India net.
