2 years after the blockbuster success of ‘PK’, Aamir Khan returns with yet another Christmas movie release titled ‘Dangal’. While the 300 crore mark is still a massive box-office mountain to climb, the track record of Aamir during the biggest weekend of the year is so immense, that the first target for the film will be to beat ‘Dhoom 3’ and cross the 300 crore mark.
In the last 8 years, four Aamir Khan films have released during the Christmas weekend and every single film has shattered box office records:
Ghajini, 3 Idiots and Dhoom 3 recorded the Highest Opening Day, Highest Single Day, Highest Opening Weekend, Highest Grosser of the Year and Highest Grosser of All Time. PK missed out on the opening day records, but went on to smash all-time records by a huge margin.
Only three films and two superstars have managed to cross the 300 crore mark. The films are PK, Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Sultan. The actors, who also happen to be two of the biggest stars in the industry today, are Salman and Aamir.
Salman has crossed the 300 crore mark twice, even though Aamir was the first to ‘open the club’. In fact, Aamir is known as the founder of every box office landmark in the industry, whether it is 100, 150, 200, 250 or 300!
Can Dangal cross 350? Can the film go on to be the highest grosser of all time? How much will the impact of demonetisation be, especially at smaller centres? Almost all ‘highest grossers’ have been commercial films providing wholesome entertainment, will ‘Dangal’ entertain the audience like some of Aamir’s other Christmas films have?
