While Salman and Shah Rukh ensure a outstanding initial due to their box office pull across the country, what has worked for Aamir is the trust factor that the audience have in his films – which is probably the toughest to achieve over a career spanning more than 27 years.
Apart from one big day for Ajay Devgn (opening day of Singham Returns) and three big days for Hrithik Roshan (Bang Bang and Krrish 3), no other actor has even managed to surpass the 25 crore mark on a single day.
Aamir’s latest release Dangal has taken the 25th spot in the all time list. It’s the 6th highest non-holiday single day of all time. When it comes to opening day non-holiday, Dangal comes second after Aamir’s Dhoom 3 in 2013.

Indicine with all due respect, but there is already Winter Holiday started in School and Colleges….Here my Niece school is already closed for 10 days (Winter Holiday)……The biggest advantage of Christmas is that it has huge number of holidays, may be offices (some) have less holiday but School and Colleges are closed for almost 10-12 days……What else any actor need to make movie HGOTY……..
3 Open Weeks and High Ticket Price is the big advantage……Here one more thing I have to add that, to take the advantage of these benefits, movie should also be good, otherwise it’s totally waste, and the best example for this is latest release Befikre, which wasted 2 open week……
It has to be considered that Aamir Khan is the only notable Bollywood face in the film. Rest are either TV or character actors and hence the film was relying entirely on Aamir Khan’s stardom and acting prowess. To still take a superb start in most parts of the country and enter the record books is a feat that makes Dangal all the more special. ‘Sone pe suhaaga’ is the fact that the word of mouth is quite good too from all quarters and that sets the stage for Dangal to grow further from this point on…

Remember Bajrangi Bhaijaan opened on a normal Friday, yes it was Ramzan but next day was Eid holiday so multiplex business peaked one First Day evening and night shows…..Thus in effect it was a normal Friday…..
Similarly Dangal has also released on a normal Friday and collections are more than BB inspite of demonetisation effect…..
Yes, Salman is the biggest star currently but the point that I’m trying to make is that its the film which opens and not only the star or starpower……..Audiences are smart and interest is developed on the basis of promos etc
