3 Hindi Comedy Films to watch this weekend

There was a time not too long ago when comedy films were popular attractions at the box office. In recent times though, the trend has shifted from situational comedy films like ‘Hungama’ and ‘Garam Masala’ to slapstick over-the-top disasters like ‘Humshakals’ and ‘Besharam’.

Classics like ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ and ‘Hera Pheri’ are films that almost everyone has seen. So we pick 3 comedy films that you should watch this weekend, films that weren’t outrageously funny classics, but super-entertaining nonetheless.

Garam Masala: Like the actor-director duo of Govinda and David Dhawan in the 90s, Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan worked in several films together – most of them were box office hits. Garam Masala was a thoroughly entertaining film that works only because of Akshay’s incredible comic timing. His chemistry with John Abraham and Paresh Rawal’s hilarious act ensured that the film was a runaway hit at the box office. The story is about Mac (Akshay) and Sam (John). Sam gets a promotion and goes on quick vacation. When he returns he finds a loser like Mac dating three women - Deepti (Daisy Bopanna), Puja (Nargis Bagheri) and Sweety (Neetu Chandra). What follows is utter chaos, a comedy of errors and situations. You can watch the movie below!

Haseena Maan Jayegi: Govind, Sanjay Dutt, Kader Khan, Satish Kaushik, Anupam Kher and Paresh Rawal in a David Dhawan film! It simply cannot get bigger or better than this. A bunch of extremely talented actors with outstanding comic timing in a film that you can watch a hundred times and still love every scene and dialogue. If you haven’t watched Haseen Maan Jayegi, you must! The story is about Sonu (Sanjay Dutt), Monu (Govinda) and their father Amirchand (Kader Khan).

No Entry: Arguably the best film that Anees Bazmee has directed in his career, No Entry stars Salman Khan in a special appearance. The film though, belongs to Anil Kapoor. Fardeen Khan does a decent job, and so do the leading ladies. No Entry went on to be the biggest blockbuster of 2005 and would find a place in the Top 5 comedy films made between 2005 – 2009, when comedy was the most popular genre at the box office.

  • after 2000 films for me golmaal by R.S. is best even a character like Vasulibhai is remember to the people today.best work by R.Shetty can be enjoyed anyday.
Beside that hungama herapheri bhagambhag welcome APdiwana can be enjoyed. Chupke chupke is really a underrated comedy movie.

  • Seeing that everyone has given good lists of comedy movies which at their time were great let me say I think one film that most have missed out on is Seeta Aur Geeta- just for the ladies to show that I aint a male chauvinistic sexist pig n I too can appreciate the fine work of the opposite fairer sex. That movie was a favourite of mine n in late 90s I saw Chupke Chupke (1975) on vhs n that was mindblowing good, very funny in a subtle way- great movies n everyone enjoy your comedy movies this week except for Sambuddha Mukherjee who is still looking for fanny and our nipun who needs to prepare himself for his Lootera sorry Kindergarten Entrance exams….

  • @thullu

Your pro akki list is as manipulated as one was expecting but you missed my fav comedy movie of akki sir of recent times which is Dogs Day Out…. That gawjus dog nailed the genre n his epic timing was a delight in comparison to Akki sirs loud off timing barking….

  • The 3 movies mentioned by Indicine above are good choices but Garam Masala being recommended in particular is fraudulent if you ask me- theres better comedy movies to be viewed this week for sure.
For instance watch Lootera just to LOL at nipun for watching the movie a thousand times or watch Finding Fanny just to help Sambuddha Mukherjee find fanny or arjun kapoor in real life- theres a kick in it….

  • I would remove Garam Masala and put Dhamaal in this list.I laughed throughout while watching that film.it was fantastic.
My pick for best comedy films are which I can watch again and again.
1.Andaz Apna Apna and Hera Pheri (its almost difficult to pick among them)
    2. Dhamaal
    3. Main Aur Mrs Khanna (I don’t know why this film ignored-its my favorite akki film in comedy roles in which he thoroughly dominated- Abe bachche ki Jaan lega?)
    4. Dulhe Raja- Hilarious govind-kader khan were mindboggling.
    5. All the best (many prefer golmaal 1 over this but I loved All the best more )
    6. No entry
    7.Partner.
    8. Bhagam bhag
    9. Phir Hera pheri
    10. Dhol
All above mentioned are out and out comedy films now some film which is more than comedy but brilliant.
    3 idiots- hands down
    Munna bhai MBBS
    Ishq
    Aankhen-govinda
    Raja babu

  • A bhaitard is saying here that lallu completely overshadowed srk in karan arjun, kkhh, hths.. Really? I think he was drunk while watching those movies and am not surprised, afterall he is a fan of a drunk driver.. Now coming to those movies then in karan arjun it was 50-50 to both lallu n srk.. Kkhh was completely belonged to srk and in hths srk completely overshadowed lallu even after his character was tilt more towards negative.. Mind it bhaitard.. First take acting classes from some junior artists atleast as even they are capable of overshadowing a non actor lallu..

  • Correction- its Mrs and Mrs Khiladi at no. 3 starring Akshay-juhi released in 1997.

I also love Chennai Express especially first half, hi I am normal- naam to Suna hi hoga.
@babaji you haven’t seen AAA,dude you should watch that flick,do you know at imdb this is best rated Hindi film ever which released after 1988. You talking more about imdb than I think you definitely know this and should watch that movie, highly recommended.
Aaila-uuimaAaila-uuima,Ankhe nikal kar gotiya khelunga.too hilarious.

  • @Indicine..you missed out on Dhamaal, Dhol, Chup Chup Ke and Bhagam Bhag..these are any day better than Garam Masala..Even Dostana had decent comedy!!!

  • @Aeeyy, that babaji needs bashing! He is treacherous and has hypocrisy in him although he is smart n intelligent. I know he will reply to me. But he stays silent like nothing happens when Nipun bashes Akki from left to right.

Akki is my third favorite. I posted a pro Akki comment here calling him the King of Comedy today. But sadly, @Indicine, has not posted it.

  • @anand babu 4:41am

Wrong- hes not smart like the way we think but hes very crafty uff streetwise smart- hes only bromancing nipun to get favourable reviews from him for his Akki Sir’s 2015 releases…. That old man is only quiet now coz he knows nipun has no jaddoo boy movie to review next year so can devote all of his manipulating skills /time for babaji n akki Sir- smart street dog sorry buddha….

  • @wap1234

You must be the one who was drunk when you watched Karan Arjun, KKHH and HTHS on youtube or maybe you downloaded a shoddy copy (for info on downloading good versions speak to our pro piracy megha aunty ji)

Karan Arjun was a film where our Rakhee ji was never gonna get justice for her sons even after 7 lifetimes until our Bhai came on screen n saved Srk from Amrish Puris brother in laws- after that justice was round the corner and Rakhee ji got her revenge… Bhai saved the film.

In KKHH karans directing career was over before the interval until that song ‘saajan ji…’ and the rest is history…. Film was making audiences fall asleep what with sarkar trying to be a college kid in over the top bright garms- bhai came on set n film lifted off-ATBB thanks to bhai…

As for HTHS- bhais song at Madhuri/ Sarooks wedding was films only highlight- boring film which explored kings dark side but was going nowhere so needed bhai to come back n bring life to that movie. Only memorable for bhai jaan.

  • @Navin, I also meant Babaji to be smart and intelligent in that way. He uses his intelligence to back-bite and back-stab!!
But take it from me, Pre-Kingdergarten Student, Nipun, will never appreciate any Akki movie even as much as we do until and unless his Aunty Anupama Chopra and uncle Rajeev Masand do not appreciate them. Fact is that they won’t appreciate Akki films!

  • Comedy movies? Simple. Pick up the DVDs of last five movies of our so called super star. They are all unintentional comedies!

  • Someone said Bhagam Bhag and Phir Hera Pheri were better comedy than Garam masala?? OMG
That’s why even indicine didn’t add them

  • Top 3 comedy movies all time

    1. Andaz Apna Apna
    2. Golmal
    3. Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi

I like mostly all comedies except a few like Humshakals which is just yuck!

  • Samuelfix… His name is vijay raz he’s a very good actor man… He has done a superb job in delhi belly too… Lauuundryy scene is hilarious

  • @Anand@Navin Uncle:I was a little busy so could’nt reply you on time …There were so many comments of you and uncleji ridiculing me for no reason.
First of all, have I done a heinous crime by not watching AAA and No Entry that you bashed me???
Both No entry and AAA are not shown on TV regularly here..i have’nt seen them airing on major movie channels..the films i have mentioned are quite popular on TV,so i have watched most of them more than once.
Now coming to question of nipun,I don’t think he bashed Akki..He did’nt liked Entertainment and that is his opinion!! Who the hell are you to bash anyone from expressing his views..that has happened before and is happening now.Respect others’ opinion. He loved S26.
@navin uncle::What will nipun’s review do to Akki’s films success?? If he rates a film 0 stars, will it make a Flop? Such is your retarded mentality..

@Sky:Yes,I know it is the highest rated film on IMDB,Will watch it soon!!!

  • Chameleons baba, as per your logic holiday movie worst than bang bang bcoz your opinion mate described earlier bang bang far better than Holiday. So you haven’t like akki movie. That why akki movie get average to above average to hit. Keep mate for your akki movie reviews. Thanks a lot thullu.

  • @Babaji: Myamar is lying. I had told that I found Bang Bang better than Holiday. I didn’t use the word “far better”. And, there is nothing wrong if I prefer one movie over another. And @BaBaji also knows that I had rated both the films 2.5/5 !

  • And for the record babaji dont give lame excuses that the tv in the old folks retirement home in bhojpur where you reside does not have any channels that do not show movies like AAA…. It has come on tv here in the UK twice in the past 3 months- zee and lamhe channels I think, you just in denial n will never watch the best comedy movie ever possibly made bcoz it will mean demoting the best akki Sir has to offer. Look back in the days, I downloaded Sholay n I wont deny it was wrong but everyone said it was worth a watch n Im glad I did- I didnt believe the hype until I saw it with my very own eyes- some movies demand you go the extra mile n watch them no matter what.
