Yash Raj Films’ has announced their next biggie ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ for the Diwali weekend in 2018. The release period is interesting because Aamir Khan has dominated the Christmas weekend with films like Taare Zameen Par (2007), Ghajini (2008), 3 Idiots (2009), Dhoom 3 (2013) and PK (2014). All films were blockbusters and four out of 5 films were not only the highest grossers of the year, but also the highest grossers of all time.
Ever since the industry got its 3 big festive weekends, Diwali hasn’t really been as lucrative or successful as the Christmas or Eid festive weekends. The Diwali holiday is the biggest day of the year for film business, but very few films have sustained in the long run – both because of lack of holidays and quality of films not being upto expectation.
Given Aamir’s unprecedented success during Christmas, it’s a weekend that he wouldn’t want to let go of. So the announcement of ‘Thugs of Hindostan’ for the Diwali weekend in 2018 does raise quite a few questions:
One, Shah Rukh’s film with Aanand L Rai was announced just a few days before ‘Thugs Of Hindostan’, did Aditya Chopra and SRK mutually decide the release date of their films? Interestingly, in the past, Shah Rukh has never announced the release dates of his films more than 2 years in advance. He had also said he doesn’t like announcing the release of his films before the shooting begins.
Two, did Aamir agree to let go of his most successful release period, more so since Diwali is on November 8 2018 – just 6 weeks before Christmas?
I can’t wait for Raees, The Ring, Dear Zindagi and Dwarf. Out of them, I am most excited for the Ring.
Other than that, I am also waiting for Ajay films like Shivaay, Golmaal 3, SOS2. I have buried all the hatchets and decided to support Shivaay having realized about KJos scam. I also feel sorry for bashing Kajol.
Diwali is dull only because of others. One man indystry Aamir has midas touch. Whatever he touches turns into gold. Mark my words. After thug, diwali>>>>>>christmas. Its all about when the megastar Aamir Khan releases his film. Christmas wasn’t a big festival before Aamir dominated it. It’s only Aamir who made ithe big. No other actor has given HGOTY on christmas apart from Aamir. When srk released 2 of his so called masterpieces Don 2 and meal waale, then what happened? They both underperformed. Salaman also got underperformer in dabangg 2. And fanless gobar kumar got disaster called tees maar Khan (whose one and only fan barks against Megastar Aamir Khan). So it’s all about aamir’s dominance. He owns christmas. Buthe in 2018 also he will give ATHG with TOH.

I really want EDX 2018 to be for the Khans only with a solo release. If the three of them have a solo release for EDX, then we’ll have a fascinating fight for the HGOTY and maybe HGOAT as well !!

Raees is fate of SRK. Everything will depend on raees’s performance at box office. If raees turn out a disappoint one then anyone will be ready to clash with ALR’s movie, If raees shine at box office then The ring might be release in December 2017.

I am feeling so sad for Hrithik. I was expecting Kabir Khan’s next after Tubelight with Hrithik on Diwali 2018. Somewhere I read Kabir Khan will be making a movie on Kapil Dev after Tubelight. looks like Hrithik has opted out of Kabir Khan’s next. I hope its untrue and Hrithik does Kabir Khan’s next as kabir is trying his best to work with HR since 2013.
Anyway Fighter should either release on Sept 20 2017 on Christmas 2017.
For now either Kaabil or Raees should move away from Jan 26 as T20 match between India and Eng falls on Jan26 ( 6:30 pm ).
Again on Sunday 2nd T20 match takes place ( 6:30 pm ). So collection are bound to go downhill on evening show.
If SRK is targeting The ring for Christmas 2017, then he can release Raees on Post IPL period and if not Raees should release on Jan 26 whereas Kaabil should move away from Jan 26 to Post IPL period.
Makers of Kaabil are confident because of its low budget ( 40-50 crore ).
Hope this matter gets solved very soon.
