Airlift vs The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book is all set to become the highest grosser of 2016, as the film will beat the collections of Akshay Kumar’s Airlift this weekend. The Hollywood film is not only the best trending film of the year, but the only film that has found ‘universal appreciation‘.

Understanding Box Office India: Trends, Terms and Predictions

We have been receiving a lot of questions in the last couple of days. Terms like trend, net collections, worldwide gross, distributors share is not only difficult to understand, but confusing at times. In this article, we try and explain some of these terms in simple words to give our readers a better idea on how it all works and how we use ‘trends’ to make predictions.

Highest Monday Collections of 2016: FAN comes 3rd

Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN takes the 3rd spot in the highest Monday collections of 2016, behind the Monday business of Akshay Kumar’s Airlift and The Jungle Book. However, since it was a big film released on 3500 screens with plenty of shows at multiplexes, FAN had to be at around Airlift’s level on Monday.

FAN Monday (Day 4) Box Office Collection Update

FAN has shown a significantly big drop in both occupancy and collections on Monday. The average occupancy at centres that we tracked has dropped by around 50-60% from Friday and the collections too is low due to cheaper weekday ticket prices. The drop is Pan-India. Single-screen business has crashed and multiplexes in cities too have shown bigger than expected drops. And unless the film picks up in the night, the Monday collections are likely to come in the 6-7 crore range.

Should Aditya Chopra let go of Eid for Shah Rukh Khan?

It’s no secret now that Shah Rukh Khan is going through a career low, atleast as far as the domestic box office collections of his films are concerned. He’s still bigger than most, but not quite upto the very high standards that he had consistently maintained for the first 20 years of his career.

Dishoom is coming on 29th July, confirms Sajid Nadiadwala

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala has confirmed that his upcoming production ‘Dishoom’ will release on 29th July, adding that it wouldn’t matter to him if any other film releases on the same date. Nadiadwala’s response comes amidst rumours over Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’ moving from Eid and taking the date that’s currently with ‘Dishoom’.

FAN Weekend Box Office Collections

FAN had a decent first weekend at the box office, collecting Rs 52.35 crore in 3 days. While the weekend numbers are good, the problem for the film is the trend. When the Friday collections are higher than the Sunday total, it an indication that the word-of-mouth for the film is mixed to negative.

The Jungle Book Collections in India: Crosses the 100 crore mark

The Jungle Book is on a record-breaking run in India. The Hollywood film has become only the second 100 crore grosser of 2016, after a big Hindi film like Akshay Kumar’s Airlift. The trend of the film is so incredible that it has every chance of collections 140-150 crore by the end of its run in India.

FAN Sunday 3rd Day Collections and Weekend: Early Estimate

FAN has collected Rs 18-19 crore on Sunday at the box office, taking the 3-day collections to 52 – 53 crore net – as per early estimates (official collections will be published in the morning). Multiplex business did show decent growth on the 3rd day, especially at metro cities where the occupancy for the noon and evening shows was pretty good.

FAN IndicineLBO Lifetime Box Office Prediction

FAN was the major release this weekend and the biggest release of year so far. Trade expectations weren’t too high this time around for the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, because FAN was a niche songless thriller. The film was expected to do business in the range of Rs 140 – 150 crore.

Rating for the Sultan Teaser and prospects of clash with Raees

This page is to discuss the answers from the ongoing Live QnA session Q. How would you rate the Sultan teaser? And what are the prospects of the clash actually happening? A. The Sultan teaser was short and effective, even though it didn’t reveal much about the film. The shoot is still in progress, so the whole point behind releasing the teaser early was to attach it to the print of ‘FAN’ – which was getting a wide release worldwide. The response has been very good so far. As for the clash, it’s not happening. Raees will move to a later date. Official announcement will be made soon.

FAN Official Collections on Day 2

Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN has dropped by around 20% on Saturday, as the film showed a major decline in business at mass centres. The Maneesh Sharma directed film was steady at cities, but the growth that was expected out of the film on Saturday was missing.

FAN Saturday (Day 2) Box Office Collection: Evening Update

11:45PM Night Update: FAN has collected around 17 crore on Saturday. The official collections will be published tomorrow morning. 7:30PM Evening Update: FAN has picked up at multiplexes in the evening on Saturday. Since the film is not performing at smaller centres and single-screens, it needed a big jump at multiplexes, which hasn’t come as of 6PM in the evening. Unless business escalates quite significantly in the night, the film is looking at a drop of around 5-10% on Saturday, which would mean Day 2 total of around 17 crore net. There were two IPL matches today, one at 4PM and the other at 8PM. It remains to be seen what sort of impact it has had and will have on business today. Morning Update: Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN has taken a slower start on Saturday morning as compared to the occupancy for the morning shows on Friday. This is normal for a film featuring SRK in the lead, because a lot of people watch his films ‘first day first show’ on the day of release.
