Sultan eyes TV records: Rival channels use Salman to compete

The world television premiere of Salman Khan’s Sultan will take place tonight – 8PM Indian Standard Time on Sony Max. The year hasn’t been great as far as television premieres are concerned, with Varun Dhawan’s Dishoom topping the list of 2016 releases, followed by Housefull 3. No films has managed to cross the 1 crore mark this year. While Dishoom will be easily surpassed, the record that Salman hopes to beat will be the viewership record that ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ set earlier this year.

Harshvardhan Kapoor makes the worst possible debut

Anil Kapoor’s son Harshvardhan Kapoor has made the worst possible debut of all-time in the industry. His first film, ‘Mirzya’ directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra, was rejected on the morning of its release itself giving the film absolutely no chance to even recover half of its ‘advertising’ investment.

MS Dhoni The Untold Story Box Office Collection Update

‘MS Dhoni The Untold Story’ is holding up well in its second week at the box office, as the film has collected Rs 3.40 crore on its second Monday, which is nearly 3 times more than the 1st Monday collections of this week’s release Mirzya. The film has also crossed the 110 crore mark in 11 days, beating the collections of Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 3. It should eventually go on to become the 2nd highest grosser of the year, ahead of Airlift and Rustom.

Mirzya is the biggest disaster of 2016

Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya is the biggest disaster of 2016, as the collections of the film is poorer than the other big disaster ‘Great Grand Masti’ – which was affected by piracy. Others disasters like ‘Fitoor’ and ‘Mohenjo Daro’ showed decent trend, but Mirzya has done the impossible on Saturday. The film which opened to a disastrous response on Friday, went down further on Saturday. The two-day total now stands at Rs 4.30 crore (Friday 2.2 crore, Saturday 2.1 crore).

Box Office Opening of Bollywood actors on Debut

While no other actor has managed to make the kind of impact that Hrithik Roshan made with his debut film, the current decade has given the industry quite a few promising stars. The next few years will decide who among these will take it to the next level and attain super-stardom. Band Baaja Baarat (Ranveer Singh): Anushka Sharma was a star after the release of Shah Rukh Khan’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, but Maneesh Sharma’s Band Baaja Baarat gave the industry a promising star in Ranveer Singh. The film collected just Rs 1 crore on its opening day, but carried excellent word-of-mouth and went on to attain ‘hit’ status.

IndicineFBO Box Office Update: Mirzya, Shivaay, ADHM, Rock On 2

Quick update on the opening day expectations and pre-release buzz of the next 4 major releases. Mirzya: Unless the word-of-mouth is extraordinary, Mirzya is a film that’s waiting to join the list of disasters this year. There is simply no interest to watch the film in theatres. We did a survey at two theatres last weekend when ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ released. We asked about 80 people at one theatre and 100 plus people at the second theatre about Mirzya. 26% of people weren’t aware that the film is releasing, 59% knew about the film but weren’t interested in watching, 12% said they will wait for reviews and only 3% of people said they would be watching it in theatres this weekend.

MS Dhoni vs Tanu Weds Manu Returns: Box Office Comparison

Aanand L Rai’s ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ is arguably the biggest surprise hit of 2015 and when ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ opened the way it did last weekend, there were expectations that it would do 150 crore plus. However, the box office performance of ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ also goes to show that a strong trend after the weekend, is always more important than a huge weekend.

MS Dhoni Tuesday (Day 5) Box Office Collections

‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ is not sustaining as well as it was expected to, during the weekdays. The film was down on Monday and fell further on Tuesday, which isn’t a positive sign as far as the long terms box office prospects of the film are concerned. After a outstanding first weekend, there was hope that the film would perform well for the next 2-3 weeks. There is a film like ‘Mirzya’ lined up for release this week, but apart from that the next major releases are ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ and ‘Shivaay’ this month end (Diwali). The trend suggests, ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ will end its first week with business of around 94 crore (all versions). The lifetime total depends on how well it holds on Friday, but it’s unlikely to enter the Top 3 highest grossers of the year – which are Sultan (302 cr), Airlift (129 cr) and Rustom (128 cr).

MS Dhoni Monday (Day 4) Box Office Collections

Note: We were facing a few technical issues, sorted out now. ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ has done well on its first weekday (Monday) at the domestic box office. The drop is bigger than expected, as there were expectations that it would hold on to 9-10 crore levels.

MS Dhoni Worldwide Box Office Collections: First Weekend

‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ has collected Rs 66 crore in its first weekend at the domestic box office. The film has also added Rs 21.95 crore to its collections from the overseas markets. The worldwide gross collections of film including collections from dubbed regional versions like Tamil and Telugu, stands at Rs 118.24 crore – making it the second highest first weekend grosser, only behind Sultan (which is the only film this year to cross 200 crore in its first weekend itself).

MS Dhoni: The Untold Story Box Office Prediction

‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ is the big release of the week and arguably one of the Top 3 most-anticipated films of 2016 so far. The response to the advance booking, which opened about 5 days ago, has been excellent. In terms of the number of ticket sold, it’s probably the second best advance booking of the year – below Salman Khan’s Sultan and comparable to Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN.

Shivaay vs ADHM: The better trailer?

The theatrical trailers of Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shivaay’ and Karan Johar’s ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ (ADHM) are out and if the response to the trailers is anything to go by, then it’s going to be advantage ‘Shivaay’ during Diwali this year – atleast as far as the opening is concerned. While the trailer of Shivaay was unanimously applauded for its visuals and grandeur, the trailer of ADHM has been criticised for being too confusing and underwhelming.
