ADHM becomes the 47th 100 crore grosser

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has become the 47th 100 crore grosser in Bollywood and the 6th 100 crore grosser this year. While joining the ‘club’ which was created by Aamir Khan in 2008, is no longer as big it was a few years ago, it was always going to be important for the Diwali releases to get to 100.

ADHM Worldwide Box Office Collections: Crosses 200 crore

Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has collected Rs 97.15 crore in 10 days at the domestic box office. The film has also crossed the 10 million mark overseas, making it the second highest overseas grosser of the year, only behind Salman Khan’s Sultan which collected more than $24 million earlier this year. The worldwide box office collections of the film also crossed the 200 crore mark on its 2nd Sunday.

Hindi Movie Releases in November 2016

It was touted to be the month of sequels, but the announcement of ‘Dear Zindagi’ for November 25, a date which was earlier taken by ‘Kahaani 2’ – made it a month dominated by sequels / franchise films, with ‘Dear Zindagi’ being the only other major release.

ADHM and Shivaay hold well during weekdays

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is holding up very well at the domestic box office, even after the end of the Diwali festivities. On ‘real value’ the film has recorded the 2nd or 3rd highest of the year. Rustom and Kapoor & Sons collected more but both films benefitted from partial holidays, which tends to give business a boost of around 20-25%.

Box Office: ADHM maintains lead over Shivaay

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has maintained its lead over Shivaay for the 6th consecutive day at the box office. While the Karan Johar directed film is already a profitable venture for its investors, Shivaay still has a mountain left to climb. At the end of the 6th day, it looks more or less certain that ADHM has won the controversial box office clash and could further extend its lead in the second weekend.

Dangal Trailer Review: Trade and Audience Response

The theatrical trailer of Aamir Khan’s Dangal was released 2 weeks ago and the response so far has been terrific. Before we get down to analysing the trailer, let’s take a moment to applaud the man who carries the burden of immense expectations.

The curious case of BookMyShow User Ratings: Shivaay and ADHM

Now that the hype around the Diwali clash is coming to an end, it’s time to write about something that we have been following closely over the last 4 days. The ‘user ratings’ on the popular ticket booking website ‘BookMyShow.com’ is loaded heavily in favour of Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay.

Shivaay vs ADHM vs Rustom vs Housefull 3: Box Office Collection

The two Diwali releases this week are both showing decent trends at the box office, even though Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil has easily won the clash in the first 5 days. The gap between the two films has now increased to nearly 10 crore, which could be decisive as the Diwali period has come to an end.

Shivaay, ADHM Saturday (Day 2) Box Office Collections

‘Shivaay’ and ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’ sustained at opening day levels on Day 2 at the box office. The Ajay Devgn starrer held on above the 10 crore mark, while the Karan Johar directed film collected Rs 13 crore at the box office. The trend is normal for ‘Pre-Diwali’ releases, as Krrish 3 (similar release period 3 years ago) had also shown a small drop on its second day. Sunday too will be affected by ‘Laxmi Pooja’, but collections do tend to show an upwards trend evening onwards.

Shivaay Day 1 (Friday) Box Office Collections

Shivaay has collected Rs 10.24 crore on its opening day at the box office. The collections are poor for a film that was made on a budget of more than 100 crore. The Ajay Devgn starrer was ahead of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil at circuits like Rajasthan, Bihar and C.I where massy films targeted at the single-screen audience tend to dominate.  These are also the circuits that were affected by the pre-Diwali period, so there is hope that ‘Shivaay’ could double its business on Monday.

Shivaay Press Screening on Thursday evening, a big mistake

The press screening of ‘Shivaay’ took place at Fun Cinemas (Mumbai) at 6:30PM on Thursday. The reviews have been scathing, writing the film off as yet another disappointment this year. But why did someone as experienced as Ajay Devgn decide to show the film to the media on Thursday evening – is something that we haven’t been able to understand. It was clear from the promos itself that ‘Shivaay’ was never going to be the kind of film that would win over the critics.

Shivaay, ADHM Day 1 Box Office Collections: Early Estimate

Shivaay has collected Rs 9 – 9.5 crore on its opening day at the box office, as per early estimates on Friday night. The film has performed well at single-screens, but it’s the multiplex business that has come as a huge disappointment on Day 1. A film made on a budget of 100 crore plus, has no choice but to perform at centres where the ticket prices are high, else recovery becomes difficult if not impossible.

Shivaay, ADHM Box Office Prediction

There are two big releases this Diwali weekend. Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay and Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The former is Ajay’s biggest film to date - a film on which he has invested nearly 2 years of his life. He’s the actor, the only recognisable face, the director and also the producer!

Success of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil important for Ranbir Kapoor, Karan Johar

It’s been 11 months since his last release and 40 months since his last box office success, but inspite of all his recent failures, the biggest directors in the industry are queueing up to sign Ranbir Kapoor for their films. There can only be two reasons, his acting talent and the love that he gets from his fans. Not too long ago, Ranbir was one of the most promising actors in the industry and the closest that any young star had got to attaining ‘superstar’ status.

Sultan Television Ratings

Salman Khan’s Sultan has set records on television, beating all other films that released this year. The Ali Abbas Zafar directed film has received about 15% more viewership as compared to the second highest of 2016 – which was Dishoom with 95.44 lakh television viewers. While the ratings are lower than expected, Sultan was aired in the night on Saturday. It was also competing against other Salman films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Hum Aapke Hai Kaun that were aired on rival television channels at the same time.
