Dangal beats the first 3-day collections of Sultan

Dangal has beaten the first 3-day collections of Sultan, a period which is considered to be the first weekend even though Sultan released on Wednesday. There is very little gap between the two films – Dangal has collected 106.95 crore, while Sultan collected 105.53 crore. The last 3-day collections of Sultan (Fri, Sat, Sun) is even closer to Dangal.

Dangal Day 3 (Sunday) Box Office Collection Update

Dangal has just completed two outstanding days, collecting Rs 64.60 crore at the domestic box office. The film has already become the 13th highest grosser of the year, ahead of films like Mohenjo Daro and Befikre. At multiplexes, the business of Dangal peaked on Saturday night with most shows running at 100% occupancy. The film is now performing even at centres where it did not take a strong initial on Friday.

3 Khans way ahead of rest: Highest Single Day Collections

The 3 Khans – Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan (in order of seniority) have dominated the box office this decade. While Salman and Shah Rukh ensure a outstanding initial due to their box office pull across the country, what has worked for Aamir is the trust factor that the audience have in his films – which is probably the toughest to achieve over a career spanning more than 27 years. Apart from one big day for Ajay Devgn (opening day of Singham Returns) and three big days for Hrithik Roshan (Bang Bang and Krrish 3), no other actor has even managed to surpass the 25 crore mark on a single day. Aamir’s latest release Dangal has taken the 25th spot in the all time list. It’s the 6th highest non-holiday single day of all time. When it comes to opening day non-holiday, Dangal comes second after Aamir’s Dhoom 3 in 2013. Check out the full list below:

Highest Opening Day Collections of 2016: Final List

Aamir Khan’s Dangal has taken the second spot in the final list of highest opening day collections of 2016. However, like 2015, Salman once again tops the list and the gap between him and the rest is growing - as far as the sheer pan-India box office pull on the opening day is concerned. When it comes to footfalls, from the theatre samples we have at the moment, Sultan sold around 35% more tickets than Dangal on Day 1. This is due to higher ticket prices and the fact that multiplexes are performing better for Dangal, while Sultan had the advantage of partial holiday for Eid along with the film being more commercial and hence appealing to a wider section of the audience.

Befikre Monday (Day 4) Box Office Collections

Befikre has collected Rs 5.20 crore on its 4th day at the domestic box office. It was a holiday for Eid Milad in most parts of the country, with ticket prices at weekend levels on Monday. Since the advantage of the partial holiday on Monday was around 20%, the ‘real value’ of the Monday collections is around the 4 crore mark. The advantage will also be there on Tuesday as some institutions that did not have a holiday on Monday, will be closed on Tuesday.

Befikre Friday (Day 1) Box Office Collections

Aditya Chopra’s Befikre has collected Rs 10.36 crore on its opening day at the box office. The collections are decent, but the expectations were higher when you consider the names behind the film – Aditya Chopra, the man who directed some of the biggest ever blockbusters of Hindi Cinema and Ranveer Singh returning after ‘Bajirao Mastani’.

IndicineFBO: Raees and Kaabil Box Office

Now that the trailers of Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil are out, it’s time to the start the ‘IndicineFBO’ prediction of the two films. Earlier, both films were scheduled to release on the Republic Day holiday which would’ve probably meant the combined collections of the two films could’ve crossed the Rs 40 crore mark. But with both makers deciding to release their film a day in advance to take advantage of the night shows before the holiday, we believe around 30-31 could be divided between the two films on the opening day – assuming Filmkraft Productions’ decide to go for a full-fledged release on Wednesday (25 Jan).

Kahaani 2 First Weekend vs Dear Zindagi 2nd Weekend

Gauri Shinde’s ‘Dear Zindagi’ in its second weekend, showed better growth than this week’s new release Sujoy Ghosh’s ‘Kahaani 2’. While ‘Dear Zindagi’ grew by 93% from Friday to Sunday, ‘Kahaani 2’ didn’t exactly show the kind of trend that it was expected to over the weekend – showing growth of just 63% from Day 1 to Day 3. In the next couple of days, the gap could narrow down further, depending on how the two films hold today.  The 10-day total of Dear Zindagi stands at Rs 57.10 crore.
