Shortkut starring Akshaye Khanna, Arshad Warsi and Amrita Rao was expected to do well at the box office, as the movie was well-promoted and had enough buzz surrounding it. Unfortunately, it hasn’t done too well.
The Anil Kapoor produced film was expected to do well, as Akshaye Khanna’s had a good 2008. Race was a super-hit and Mere Baap Pehle Aap did reasonably well and grossed (nett) close to 12 crores (more than 8 crores coming during the weekend) in week 1.
So what went against the film?
- Lack of star power. Race was a multistarrer, with bigger names like Saif Ali Khan and Bipasaha Basu in the film. Mere Baap Pehle Aap was directed by Priyadarshan who has a decent enough fan-following. Shortkut was a test for Akshaye and despite being a great actor, he fails to make an impact on people. Wonder why..
- The film was bad, the reviews were terrible and the word of mouth was extremely poor after the initial shows on Day 1.
- While people expected an out-n-out comedy with the director being Neeraj Vohra, the second half was filled with a lot of emotions and what we call rona-dhona.
The collections have been poor, the nett gross on Friday was around 1.40 crores, dropped slightly on Saturday and was better on Sunday. The weekend nett should be close to 6 crores. With poor word of mouth, chances of the movie sustaining is bleak.
Most likely, FLOP!
