‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ has performed extraordinarily well on the big holiday for Independence Day. The film has collected Rs 20 crore on Tuesday, to take its 5-day total to Rs 83.45 crore.
Multiplex business in major cities showed growth of around 35-40% from Monday, but it’s at smaller centres and single-screens where the film showed phenomenal growth. Some centres in UP more than doubled from Monday and it’s these centres that are expected to drive the business of the film in the next few days.
Today will be the first weekday for the film. Multiplex ticket prices will be down to weekday rates and this should bring the business down to single-digit (less than 10 crore) for the first time since the release of the film on August 11.
The collections (not occupancy) in the morning shows are showing an average drop of around 38-40% from Monday, which should mean business in the 7-8 crore range today – depending on how the rest of the day goes.
‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’ is the 5th consecutive box office ‘hit’ for Akshay Kumar, it’ll also be five 100 crore grossers in a row. The hold today and the growth over the second weekend will decide the lifetime business of the film.
