Now that the hype around the Diwali clash is coming to an end, it’s time to write about something that we have been following closely over the last 4 days. The ‘user ratings’ on the popular ticket booking website ‘BookMyShow.com’ is loaded heavily in favour of Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay.
Out of 56,467 votes received for Shivaay – 61% of the total voters rated it 5 stars. On the other hand, we have the other release this weekend, which is performing very well at multiplexes. But for some reason, the ratings are abnormally negative – even when compared to some of the biggest box office disasters of the year.
ADHM has received 52,865 votes – out of which a whopping 42% ratings are for 1 star.
This raises a couple of questions:
- Can BookMyShow ratings be hacked or manipulated? While ratings on IMDb and other websites make little or no difference to ticket sales, BookMyShow ratings can impact business of films because people see the ratings before booking tickets. Nowadays, most people also trust ‘user ratings’ more than ‘critic ratings’.
- If BookMyShow ratings can be hacked into, and a production house or fanbase can create multiple accounts or use bots to negatively vote for a competing film, it could be used in the future too as Bollywood enters an era of box office clashes.

The ratings of 2015’s most acclaimed blockbuster ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ certainly looks more genuine to us. More evenly distributed between 5 and 4 stars ratings!

I watched both movies I can say that adhm deserve only 1* & shivaay 4*
I hv been saying this for long how ajay has shamelessy used every possible trick to sabotage adhm. bms is mainly visited by urban audience where adhm has worked big tume & he wants us to blv that adhm is rated a poor 61% but shivaay an impressive 75%…!!! I mean even badlapur was rated 74% there but shivaay 75%..!!!
not just bms or imdb but even on fb & twitter there os extaordinary artificial -ty spread around adhm
shivaay won & is still winning every year online poll against adhm yet the bo reality is exactly opposite.. daily 1000s of ppl r giving -ve reviews of adhm & hailing adhm as a masterpiece.. !!
Sacchai sabke samne hai & actual public mandate is with adhm while shivaay has been rejected but it hurts u to see a dignified big star like ajay stooping so low to maje his film work. :(

Unnecessary nitpicking. You won’t find a common pattern in number distribution across all individual entities. When you broaden the scope in terms of number and variety and look from a macroscopic view, only then you will find a pattern across similar GROUPS but never across individual entities.
The reviews which I have received from “Real time audiences” (friends and acquaintances) suggest that ‘Shivaay’ is not a masterpiece or good film. For many, its a decent one time watch while for others, its a boring movie which was way too stretched.
Going to watch ADHM tomorrow, so can’t comment on that.
But such a huge number of ‘5 star’ ratings on Shivaay side and poor ‘1 star’ rating on ADHM side certainly hits the bulls eye.
Though we can’t really blame the makers of either films, but some sort of manipulation is evident. Be it a PR work or something promoted by fans on their own, but tempering has surely been done.
As far as Hacking is concerned, its not that easy but no that tough also. But BookMyShow ratings can be manipulated in many other ways and you don’t have to necessarily be a proficient hacker for the same.
Create multiple IDs and rate the movies as per your wish because BMS doesn’t set a bar that if you want to rate a movie, you will have to produce a ticket or something of that sort.
So fans and people from PR Team take advantage of this loophole and pass the ratings as desired.
Lol Ajay is such a loser. Adhm will easily earn more than 1.5 times of shivay. And in overseas, adhm will do 5-6 times the business of flop shivay

It is amazing how hard Ajay is trying to win the clash, even if by unethical means. I was always suspicious about the spurious IMDb ratings and reviews but this analysis by Indicine exposes the dirty work of Ajay bots.

This has nothing to do with Ajay. It has garnered poor ratings at imdb 5.4. Shivaay is really good film with great action and emotion. After so many negative reviews people didn’t expected Shivaay to be so good thats why they are going mad right now and internet is flooded with positivity for Shivaay. That’s it. Infact Ajay is the one who is being manipulated by all those paid negative reviews.
