Aanand L Rai’s ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’ is arguably the biggest surprise hit of 2015 and when ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ opened the way it did last weekend, there were expectations that it would do 150 crore plus.
However, the box office performance of ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ also goes to show that a strong trend after the weekend, is always more important than a huge weekend.
At the end of 5 days, MS Dhoni leads Tanu Weds Manu Returns by a whopping 26.78 crore, but the biopic is unlikely to come anywhere close to the lifetime total of the Kangana Ranaut starrer.
As far as budget and release size is concerned, there is no comparison whatsoever. ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ has costs that go upto 100 crore (including Dhoni’s fee, print and marketing), while Tanu Weds Manu Returns had low costs and is one of the biggest ROI hits of 2015.

Believe it or not ,but Post-ipl is far better period than Independence Day and Gandi Jayanti.
Some may think ,there is no holiday at that time but there r many summer holodays in post-ipl and family audiences comes in bulk to watch movies @ this period and people also need a change after 2 -2.5 month long IPL .
Post-IPL is 4th best period acc. 2 me.
If dhoni would have releasef in Post-ipl ,it would do 150 cr. Business easily.
And I believe a movie can earn even 250 cr. In this period wid a solid content and starcast .
If bajrangi bhaijaan would have released @ post-ipl ,it will easily do 250 cr. + Business.

Watched zindagi na milegi dobaara (heard a lot from my friends abt this) today ,it was a great movie or I would say ”If we pick 3 best movies of this decade znmd will be definately one of them”
Hritik, Farhan and Abhay nailed their roles and surprisingly katrina act really well (his best performance after namastey london)
And there was another actress don’t know her name ,she was awesome
Overall a must watch movie and best movie of Hritik in his career.

12% drop isn’t that bad actually. Key will be to stabilize quickly to be able to make use of the weak flow of releases in the coming weeks. For those who believe in producer figures, 130 is still on.
A movie like MSD needed a Solo festival Release to Enjoy Massive business of 200 plus,But I forgot only khans can have this luxury to boost their position and collections..!

No matter how much u guys try to spread -ty around Dhoni the fact remains it will score a 140cr+ lt at d bo which is huge for its ststcast. y not a similar comparison between non holiday king akkis hf3 airlift rustom with Dhoni. y comparing it with a universally appealing film like twmr??

@offtopic, ZNMD box office collections were 90 crores and it was a clean hit. And yeah, even I loved the movie. I think it was the best movie of 2011
TWMR had extremely positive WOM and was a Post IPL release which is the best release period after EDX whereas MS Dhoni is a non-holiday release and has mixed WOM. There is no comparison.
Huge drops on Monday and Tuesday. Seems like the lack of known faces and foot tapping music is impacting this movie badly in the mass sector. Agreed that the second half is labored and boring, but so was the second half of Sultan. The only difference being that that had the criminal dancing like a monkey to bogus lyrics like Baby ko Bass. As of now, it seems like MSD is carrying appreciation only among the high end and mid range multiplexes of metro and semi metro cities and the final tally would be in range with films like ZNMD, Barfi, BMB and Airlift. But at a cost of over ?100 cr (thanks to greedy manipulative MSDs remuneration), this movie would never be the success that the above mentioned films became.
