‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ has taken a phenomenal opening at the domestic box office, collecting 21.3 crore on Day 1. The opening day collections of the film is higher than a big film like FAN, which featured a top superstar like Shah Rukh Khan in the lead and released on a partial holiday. It’s also ahead of other biggies like Housefull 3, Rustom, Dishoom and more than double the collections of Mohenjo Daro.
In fact, ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ is the highest non-holiday opener of 2016 as Sultan released on a half holiday.
Almost every circuit has performed, barring a couple in the north which were comparitively lower than the level of business that other circuits managed. A circuit like C.I has collected more than 80 lakhs on Day 1, which is only lower than the Rs 1.4 crore total of Sultan, but way higher than Housefull 3 (68 lakhs) and FAN (60 lakhs).
The start that ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ has got, has only been achieved by films that featured elite superstars in the industry. But Dhoni’s popularity amongst every section and the curiosity to know his untold story has ensured a fantastic opening day.
The word-of-mouth is positive so the film could actually grow from here. If ’MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ manages to show growth on Saturday, then the first weekend business could get close to the 70 crore mark and the film will have every chance of becoming the second highest Hindi grosser of 2016.

With Fox opting for a wide release and the interest the film had managed to generate even at smaller centres, it was a foregone conclusion on Thursday evening that ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ would take a pan-India opening. Good prediction, but I predicted a 20+ opening on 16th of Sep. Wonder what made you keep FBO at 14.7 till 24 hrs b4 release. And please don’t spread negativity about Mirzya. Promos have missed the mark but with a love story you never know.

Why not,Dhoni is the 2nd biggest celebrity in INDIA after Salman khan.But it should be go strong in the opening weekend.but in weekdays there is drop written all over becoz of weak starcast.weak starcast movie can’t sustain of being commercial genre.hope It cross 100cr and be a hit.

Its budget is 104cr due to dhoni take 50cr for his biopic rights.Weekend should in range of 65-70cr.it will at least recover its cost and may become a hit at 125cr due to its huge opening and holidays in 2nd week.

Some SRK fans still think SRK stardom is intact due to HNY collections. Sadly to prove them wrong FAN (being a content rich but niche and off beat movie) could not manage even half of HNY’s opening. And here Dhoni’s name is more global than Global queen !!!!!!!!!! Lol

The movie is boring…first half struggling part is good but second half is a drag
Inspirational but still it tries to make dhoni sit on a high pedestal…no scenes showing dressing room interactions… love story dragged to bore … dhoni is master stratergist… no scenes showing that parts.. had second half showed how dhoni used to handle pressure crunch situations it would had been good… second half is big let down and even climax is too fast…it had the potential to involve audiences emotionally but was boring…even the flow of the movie is not smooth as it has abrupt cuts… and the biggest of all csk involving in betting part is missing…just like azhar its about patronizing dhoni…but handling of movie is better..
