Shivaay Trailer Review and Trade Response

The trailer of Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film ‘Shivaay’ was unveiled in Indore yesterday and the response has been hugely positive.  Prior to the release of the trailer, there were quite a few question marks over the film - will Ajay succeed in directing a film that not only has high-production values, but also looks like a big event film? Will the film attract both the urban audience and the masses – which is important since the budget of the film is high? Will the trailer make an impact – trailers of films like Mohenjo Daro in the recent past – have shown how important a trailer is to creating the right amount of buzz, more so when two films (in this case, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil) are scheduled to release on the same day.

The answer to all the above questions, is yes. Ajay – as the producer, director and actor – has succeeded in delivering a trailer that created a huge initial splash.

We asked 20 people in the trade (including theatre owners, distributors, trade veterans etc) for their feedback on the Shivaay trailer. The response was very positive - 17 of them said the trailer was ‘good’, 3 said it was average and none said it was poor. None of these people were in any which way associated with Ajay Devgn or his film ‘Shivaay’. All opinions were from known and unbiased sources.

For our own rating, we go with 8 on 10 for the trailer.

Positives of the Shivaay trailer

• The visuals are breath-taking, Shivaay will be a visual treat for the audience
• Packed with action, will appeal to the masses
• Promises to offer a different experience for the Hindi audience
• The first trailer doesn’t reveal much about the story-line, which has created quite a bit of curiosity.
• Ajay seems to have delivered a good performance
• Perfect film for Diwali.

Negatives of the Shivaay trailer

• The trailer was a little too long. A shorter trailer would’ve probably enhanced the impact.
• No known star apart from Ajay Devgn. From a business point-of-view, lack of a known female face, does make a difference.
