The festive weekends of Bollywood, which includes Eid, Diwali and Christmas, are by far the most lucrative period for film releases.
Some points:
- No film that has released outside the three major holiday periods has crossed the 200 crore mark.
- The Top 10 grossers of all time (without adjusting inflation) all belong to festive releases.
- The highest grosser belongs to Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which released back in 2013. Since then, only two films – Bang Bang and Tanu Weds Manu Returns – have crossed the 150 crore mark.
- The Khans (Salman, SRK, Aamir) have dominated Eid, Diwali, Christmas. In the last 6 years, Salman had two non-festive releases Ready (120 cr) and Jai Ho (112 cr). Aamir had only one release Talaash (93 cr) and Shah Rukh also has only one FAN (85 cr). So even the Khan films, apart from Ready, have been under-performers when they releases their films outside the festive period. In fact, the worldwide gross of all four of their non-festive films is lower than the worldwide gross of just one film PK.
- Akshay Kumar leads with four films, followed by Ajay Devgn with three.

I will put Aamir on top of the list. He is biggest crowd puller on non holiday. Talaash was extremely risky movie with niche thriller genre and released between 3 masala commercial films I.e. SOS, JTHJ, and Khiladi 786. If anyone else was in tala ash them it wouldn’t have crossed even 60 cr life time.
Now the legendary self proclaimed critics .. plz don’t tell stuffs like ranbir greater than salman.. or kangana greater than srk… Nd so on…

Salman leading Khans nd ya it proves that his films are bound to be big grossers. Jai ho was -ve WoM movie and poorly made and tickets prices were low just to give out the mesg..

Housefull 3 will be a huge flop, the trailer is horrible and with very poor jokes. And songs are craps too.
It was salman’s hahk that opened the door to overseas … Srk then expanded the reach of indian films across the globe… It was aamir who took over china which no other star could do..! And the one film which rightly deserved to be one of the topper of this list was ZNMD…it grossed 93 cr in 2011 with just 1600 screens in India. If only they had given it a much wider release it would have easily crossed more than 120 cr
