Dhoom is inarguably the biggest franchise in the industry, so the very fact that a film like Bajrangi Bhaijaan has beaten Dhoom 3 on 4 of its first day 6 days at the box office, is a huge achievement.
Due to lack of holidays, surpassing Bollywood’s highest grosser of all time might prove to be a difficult task for the Salman Khan starrer, but the Kabir Khan film has every chance of beating Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 to become the 2nd highest grossing film of all time.
Also, the word-of-mouth of Bajrangi Bhaijaan is far more positive as compared to Dhoom 3, which should result in better trends in the next couple of weeks. Unfortunately, the difference again could be one extra holiday (New Year) and open week, which could make this a tough contest between two hugely popular films.

23 July Update: At the end of Day 6, Dhoom 3 is leading by Rs 5.88 crore because of a holiday for Christmas on its 6th day. The second weekend collections is likely to decide the result. Dhoom 3 collected Rs 38.85 crore in its second weekend, if Bajrangi Bhaijaan can collect about 15% more i.e somewhere around Rs 45 crore, it will eventually beat Dhoom 3 and also have a shot at becoming the 2nd 300 crore grosser.
24 July Update: Dhoom 3 leads by Rs 4.34 crore, but Bajrangi Bhaijaan has sustained well and shown better trends during the weekdays. Second weekend figures will decide the outcome of the clash.
26 July Update: The last two days have turned the tables in favour of Bajrangi Bhaijaan big time! The film is showing much better trends. 2nd Friday: Bajrangi Bhaijaan 13.15 cr, Dhoom 3 10.1 cr. 2nd Saturday: Bajrangi Bhaijaan 20.05 cr, Dhoom 3 12.04 cr. Massive difference. During our last update, we had said that the second weekend figures would decide the outcome, it has! Bajrangi Bhaijaan will beat the lifetime collections of Dhoom 3 by the end of its 2nd week or in its 3rd weekend.
