Historically, January has been a poor month for the industry. The biggest films of the month have belonged to Hrithik Roshan, who made his debut in the same month with Kaho Naa.. Pyaar Hai. The highest grosser of January also belongs to Hrithik’s 2012 film Agneepath.
The other big successes of January in the last 10 years or so have been films like Rang De Basanti and Yamla Pagla Deewana. Others like No One Killed Jessica, Baby and Race 2 have been fairly successful.
This year, January would have been no different if not for Akshay Kumar’s Airlift. The contribution of the film for January 2016 is more than 50%. In other words, Airlift will collect more than all other January releases combined.

All the releases were small compared to Airlift and neither of the films had a superstar,for me Airlift was my first film to watch in theatre this year coz of WOM and Akki.

lol @indicine pity on u in just january month u are declaring biggest opening,weekend etc and most hilarious thing is akki fans are getti g happy like they crossed 100cr rofl, star power decide in first weekend, first week and jai ho desoite huge negativity, average director,heroine without any holiday(republic day on sunday) etc has highest first week collection as wom can collect 150cr even with small stars like kangana or madhavan but akki sir will finish with 125cr even with much better wom than twmr this shows the starpower even madhavan and kangana is bigger than akki lol

Since 2012 Akki has made some great choices but only Holiday could do 100 CR. I am happy to see Airlift is doing superb business and I will be delighted to see Airlift breaking the record of Agneepath . Baby was also a much better movie than Agneepath but it could not do 100 CR. When movies like Airlift do more than 100 CR you feel really happy because Airlift deserves each penny. Hats off to Akshay Kumar, Raja Menon, Nikhil Advani, Nimrat Kaur and T – Series for giving such a brilliant movie on such a sensitive topic which was unknown to common people . Take A Bow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
jai ho is the remake of south blockbluster,some of the songs have above average like apna kam jantha.jai ho is an action packed filim and filim of salman after 1 year gap.even tabu is famous than nimrath kaur.these are the advantage of jai ho,but according to salman fans jai ho is an d grade filim,feeling pity on them.

I agree with Kshitij Srivastava. U should come up with this feature after end of every month and at the end of the year gv cumulative gross for the year. Boi Underdereports by around 100cr every year so v need u to gv the accurate cumulative gross of every year

Akshay doing too many films is the only reason for low collection of his films.He has no less fan following than any top star there are very few people in India who watch a movie in theatres more than twice a year except youngsters and movie buffs.So no one will be watching 4 films of the same star in a single year.That’s why all the other stars have adopted one film-12 month strategy ,not just for some bs reason .

January is a poor month for business, this thing has highly overrated earlier raja babu, Elan, Karan Arjun, knph have done huge business. In fact raja babu and Élan released on same day still both were winner. Problem is today that big star like khan and roshan does one movie per year and they looks for festival release which falls second half of the year. May be after 15-20 year if Eid falls on January month every then big star will wants their release in same month. If u analyze 3 idiots collection then u will find its has done 125 cr in January month, but u u will consider it is December release. Darr, Gajini is samilat case. Race 2 also big grosser. Jai ho didn’t perform well because it was average flick but not January month affect. It is just myth that industry has created. If movie is well made then it is bound to work irrespective of months.
