In the last few days, every second comment on our website is about Ek Tha Tiger crossing the magical 200 crore figure of 3 Idiots. While Salman fans are confident of the film joining the 200 crore club, his critics are quick to point out that Bodyguard crashed after the initial extended weekend. The neutrals believe, Ek Tha Tiger is not the most deserving film to go past an ‘all-time classic’.
Our take – box-office records are meant to be broken and 3 Idiots has held on strongly (and deservingly) to the top-spot for three years now.
As things stand today, with higher ticket prices and many more screens (almost double), Ek Tha Tiger has had a huge head-start.
So far in 10 days, the Salman Khan film has 147.6 crores in the bank. At the same stage, 3 Idiots did 90.5 crore nett.
The difference could well be the second weekend, when 3 Idiots went from strength to strength. If ETT picks up over the coming weekend, it’s very likely to cross the 202 crore mark and even surpass that by a decent margin. If it crashes, then it’s likely to shut-shop with 180-185 crore nett.

UPDATE: Ek Tha Tiger had a very good 2nd weekend of around 21 crores. The second Sunday business was more than double of it’s second Friday.
After 13 days, the difference between 3 Idiots (130.5 cr) and Ek Tha Tiger (178.17 cr) is still huge. It should add another 7-8 crores by Thursday, after which, the release of Joker will have a significant impact on ETT.

UPDATE (1st Sep): Ek Tha Tiger has dropped this week with the release of Joker. But the fact that Joker has already been rejected, gives ETT a good chance to put up better numbers on Saturday (today) and Sunday, as it should be the first choice this week too.
The film stills needs about 13.5 crores to cross 200 crores and about 15.5 to beat 3 Idiots. Difficult!

There is 110% possibility that ett will cross 3 idiots figure, because the second weekend there ain’t any tough competition so im sure it will definetely cross the 3 idiots collection

Ett is nt going to break 3 idiots record…becoz after 2nd weekend film will see huge drops n it is nt possible for Ett to break the record of 3i. 3 idiots was a masterpiece n as u say Ett is nt deserving.
Impossible coz next week joker will affect ETT
although ETT is faring very well ,keeping a neutral stand,it is no where near 3 idiots.If we look from another angle i.e. number of viewers 3I is far ahead.From the entertainment point of view too there is no comparsion

Joker is only 105 minutes film so it will not effect ett anyway. 100% will cross 202 crore.

@ Indicine . Your point of view is disappointed in my point of view. Maybe you don’t know that the tickets prices went down early this year and raised back with the release of ETT to the level of Ra1. Also extra screens does not mean that these additional screens are free to watch people still have to buy tickets and star power plays a big roll here. 3 idiots also got tax free which benefited it as well. Now my point of view is its not Ett that is going to cross 200 crs but it’s Salman khan who is going to cross 200 crs through Average Ett. So u can not take credit away from Salman by saying hiked ticket prices and more screens. It’s Salmania.

everybody is saying that after two week joker will affect ek tha tiger. even if it does I mean ek tha tiger already will reach 180 crore above by the end of week two, mark my words but if you akki fans should pray for akshay that joker’s start may not be affected by ek tha tiger because there is no craze for the movie plus negative response of the trailor. trust me guys another negative point is that lot people have already spent too much money in watching ek tha tiger. They may not spend again on Joker

Why can’t everyone just enjoy Shahrukh Khan AND Salman Khan films?? Why do they always have to be compared?? It’s like comparing George Clooney and LeanardoDiCaprio, its not possible!
SRK and Salman are BOTH extremely talented and equally unique actors who have fantastic personalities and do incredible work. Both of their films? are amazingly entertaining and a joy to watch.
I’m a huge fan of theirs from the UK & every1 in India should just enjoy films and stop commenting on money & popularity
